Dean Atlee L. Percy Counseling and Statistical Research Dean Kenneth L. Heaton came to Boston University in January, 19417. He coordinates the services rendered by the Office of Counseling Service and the Office of Statistical and Research Service. The Office of Counseling Service extends its service to students in such fields as vocational testing and coun- seling, diagnosis and remedial assistance for those whose'academie achievement is limited by deficiencies in study skills, psychological and psychiatric counseling for those with personal-social problems, and counseling on the legal aspects of personal and family problems. The Ofhcc of Statistical and Research Service assists in the development, administration, and interpretation of examinations used in student selection, in counseling, and in judging student progress. It advises on statistical and research problems. It provides test scoring, statisti- cal calculations, and other research and machine serv- ices. 17 Dean of the Universit The appointment of Dean Atlee L. Percy to the post of Dean of the University was one of the first post.-war developments of Boston University. Dean Percy, a professor of accounting and commer- cial education for 30 years, is well qualified to hold this position. llis duties include acting as administrative assistant to Dr. Nfarsh and aiding in academic coordina- tion of Boston University. lle has also been director of the Summer Session and head of the Summer Term. V l Dean Elslncth ll. Melville Dean of Women A graduate of Boston University, Elsbeth R. Mel- ville, returned to her Alma Mater in early 194-5 to take into her hands the task of supervising and guiding all the women students of the University. Iler cheerfulness and capability already have been recognized by all those who have had the pleasurable experience of meeting her. Supervision of all women's dormitories, advisor to the Pan llellenic Society, Dean 'Melville's tasks are varied and demanding. Yet individual student problems, aca- demic or social, always have first. call on her time. Whether it be in one of the lJcan's many private confer- ences with students or at a gala social occasion, her sympathy, resourcefulness, and contagious good humor have been unbounded. The results of her work, of her very being among us, have endeared her not only to our hearts but also to the practical eyes of those who realize how much Dean hielville means to Boston University. Oflice of Interdepartmental Student Social Activities VVhen the Office of Interdepartinental Student Social Activities was instituted in 1935 Professor Philip E. Bunker was appointed as its first Director. The duties of this office are supervising all University social functions with the attendant task of advising. directing, and controlling the financial aspects of these affairs. The office is a clearing house for all receipts and expenditures of student organizations. As a requisite for All-University recognition semi-annual reports of these organizations must be submitted.
