The answer is yes, provided that we are guided into selecting the studies for which we should have some natural attraction. Then, if we daily make a determined effort to master and to conquer difficulties, we shall be delightfully surprised to discover that interest in what at first might have been dull, even repellent, turns into an eager zest for deeper understanding. The great Cicero, eminent orator and statesman, said: “What others give to public games and entertainment, nay, even to mental and bodily rest, | give to the study of philosophy.”’ Everett J. De =. = IN MEMORIAM Ernest Robert Santoro On December 14, 1968 our senior class lost a true friend and classmate. This friend was Ernest Robert Santoro of division 4B. Ernie along with two of his pals were killed while helping a disabled motorist along Route 2A. He died in the same manner in which he lived, willing to give a helping hand to anyone who was in need. On any given weekend you would see Ernie in South Boston, where he lived, either down the skating rink watching Southie’s Bantam Team, to which he had belonged, up at Murray Hall viewing the amateur fights, or just with his buddies down on the corner. After transferring from South Boston High Ernie entered Tech in his sophomore year. He was a member of Tech’s Hockey Team, and was an all around participant in activities both in and out of school. Upon graduating Ernie had planned on entering the Air Force. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Ernie’s parents, sister and relatives. The Class of '69 will long remember Ernie Santoro.
