Every student is the architect of his own fortune Established in 1948 the DRAFTING STANDARDS Club is designed for students desiring to learn more about drafting techniques than is possible within the limited classroom time. Under the leadership of Mr. Carpenito, many complex problems in drafting are explored and solved. Boys gain an exceptional skill in the ability to make clear, complete, and accurate drawings. They learn to think in three dimensions, and to understand form, proportion, and structural relationships. The extra training gained proves in- valuable for those students who intend to pursue drafting as a career, or who hope to make drafting a major study in a technical college. Perched on their high stools in their spacious workshop the members of the drafting standards are a very quiet hard- working group. They certainly have a true per- spective of things in general, and of life in particular.

A newcomer to the school list of activities, the DISCUSSION GROUP has already made its place secure. Mr. Bowes, as faculty adviser to this serious group, has stimulated the members to think deeply about the problems confronting the United States as a democratic nation. The DISCUSSION GROUP aims Sp . as not at mere talk but at better understanding of our tSCUSSLON Gr ee neighbors, and of the world in which we live. It stresses necessity for accurate knowledge and disci- plined thinking. As citizens of tomorrow, the mem- bers of the club strive to become cooperative and re- sponsible citizens, to gain true appreciation of their American heritage, and to develop ability to think for themselves. Serious problems seriously discussed are of great benefit in arousing a sense of values and standards. The DRIVER EDUCATION Club has expanded greatly this year so that three faculty advisers now cooperate in giving the information and instruction essential to this voluntary course. Mr. Mistler, Mr. Broderick, and Mr. Gable are the capable instructors. The class learns not only technical information but also desirable attitudes. The members concentrate on the rules of the road, courtesy, safe driving, and the importance of correct driving habits. They also learn the first principles of maintenance of an automobile. Membership in this club proves worthwhile when a student seeks his driving license. The theoretical training and the intensive background instruction re- ceived in the club has thoroughly prepared the stu- dent so that he passes his examination successfully. Good preparation makes any examination easy.
