Our school magazine the ARTISAN is published three times a year. Now in its fifty-fifth year it is better than ever. It combines journalism and literature, for within its covers one finds essays and short stories, humorous cartoons and drawings, summaries of sports and games, and general information useful to our students. A consistent winner of a First Prize from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the ARTISAN is now most capably guided by Mr. Thomas Wall. Mr. Rosenthal is the art adviser. Mr. Resnick, our former adviser, was promoted to Head of the Depart- ment of English at Boston Latin School. This year’s staff of school editors, ably led by Richard Rudman as chief editor, has shown a high degree of versatility and of creative achievement. Few school magazines attain such a happy balance of serious writing, hu- morous sketches, artistic illustrations, and useful knowledge as does the ARTISAN. bgp Third Row: Sykes, Biagi, Spence, Matthews, O’Hara, Wajda, Koslow. The Art Club is composed of boys who have artistic ability and who are interested in the finer things of life. Under the direction of Mr. Rosenthal these boys produce works of art. They think in terms of tech- nique, of the relationship of details to the whole design, and create colorful paintings and ornaments. In an atmosphere of accomplishment, in their gaily decorated workshop, they turn out illustrations for the school magazine, scenes for school assemblies, posters for school and city charitable appeals, water colors for contests, and decorations that make our school bright and pleasant. The gifted student is challenged to develop his talent. All members receive a thorough knowledge of the harmony of colors and are given an opportunity to reveal their skill, taste, and power in creating beautiful objects. Mr. Grueter has been teaching English forty-five years

Working under difficulties because of the cessation of Military Drill, the members have shown great spirit and have kept alive the fine traditions of our school Band. Pep- py, lively, and colorful, they specialize in rhythmic melodies. Mr. Kahn, Music Director, has worked very hard to bring out the special musical talent of each boy. Mr. Carey is faculty adviser. Rehearsals have been well attended and the result has been apparent in a well trained unit. There is even a band within a band, a small combination that plays light popular music. To hear and see our band in action is a thrilling sight. The blare of trumpets, the ruffle of drums, and the resounding bugle calls answering the brass and the woodwinds would make anyone wake up and notice that our band is one of the best in Boston. Our regiment parades for the last time
