66 99 God ery: us, UCT OILS eee The Class of 1961 has conferred upon me a great honor when it has selected me as the Dedicatee of this year’s Technician. My special thanks, therefore, to the Class of 1961 and to the members of the “Technician” staff. I recall my twenty years at Technical High School as among the happiest and most productive of my life. The greatest joy that teachers can carry away with them after a lifetime of service is the loyalty of their fellow-workers and their pupils. Both faculty and students have been loyal to me. Thousands of men who have been in my classes from the day that I first entered the classrooms of English High in long-ago 1923 until I left the portals of Technical High in October, 1960, remain among my most cherished friends. It was not easy for me personally to make a decision that would take me from among you, but the sadness of farewell was in part mitigated by the spirit of good will and friendliness evinced by both faculty and students. May you always feel free to visit me at my new address and to bring to me your problems as you did so often at Technical High. I shall have time for you whenever you need me. I shall be as loyal to you as you have been to me. To you young men of 1961, almost all of whom I have kiwwn well, I offer my most heartfelt congratulations on this, your graduation year. May you be success- ful in your future, in college, in the armed services, in your future technical and professional lives. Determined effort will ensure success. Remain loyal alumni, and work that future generations will enjoy the same facilities at Technical High that you have enjoyed. Thank you for dedicating this “Technician” to me, and in the words of Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one.” Sincerely yours, Dr. Nathaniel J. Hasenfus 9

After serving there for seventeen years, Dr. Hasenfus, in June of 1940, succeeded Charles Lane Hanson as Head of the English Department at our school. Until October of 1960, when he retired to assume a new position as Dean of Studies at Chamberlayne Junior College, he was most highly esteemed by faculty and students.
