ol ife t Bd bal Pears ae COME..--+- from the conviction..... that one..... bre Flore ee ulmost..... To you earnest young men about to step forth into the keen, bracing atmosphere of a new life in either higher education or in the exacting and challenging competition of industry, I offer my sincerest congratulations and most cordial good wishes for success and happiness. Success and happiness to the man of wisdom and noble ideals means developing to the fullest degree his mental and spiritual p otential, to be ceaselessly striving to get more knowledge and skill, and to be firmly resolved to follow the purest and loftiest ideals that the great master spirits of re- ligion have shown us as they lead us truly to God and to our ul- timate destiny. Life's richest reward comes from the conviction that one has done his utmost to become more skillful and efficient, more intelligent and tolerant, and more merciful and charitable. proud. teee to boston ae the enor ae of this Pars oe ledieatiane hae bs ON. «eee 11. Walter J Diuswne OF P revious bed bs ler Mr. Walter T. Durnan is a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School and Boston College. After receiving his bachelor’s degree at Boston College in 1917, he enlisted in the armed forces and served overseas with honor for several years, taking part in several of the World War I offensives. When the war ended he became a chemist in industry. Several years later he returned to Boston College to study for a master’s degree in education which he received in 1923. That fall he began his life’s work of teaching at Boston English High School. He then spent a year (1924-25) at Mechanic Arts High School and then transferred to Dorchester High School. After several years he again moved, this time to the South Boston High School where he served as Head of the Science Department for fifteen years. In September, 1948, he returned to Technical High School as headmaster and served in that capacity for ten fruitful years. Last year Mr. Durnan retired from the Boston Public School System after many years of devoted service. His firm yet fair and understanding judgment was known and respected not only by the teachers but also by the innumerable pupils who have studied under his guiding hands. We, the Seniors of Boston Technical High School, are proud to bestow the highest honor in our power on this most sincere, honest, and worthy man. We are happy to dedicate the 1959 TECHNICIAN to this estimable gentleman whom we remember as a man whose ideals were exceptionally high and whose tireless efforts to obtain a new building for Technical High School we shall never forget. May God bless him and all those close to him.
