oF bs Registration Freshmen in ’58, bewildered and confused. What no gym?; we weren't amused. The tower’s great outline darkened the sky, and sometimes we'd watch the pigeons fly by. But enough of this play; we had yet to learn of the work and the studies that would come in turn. Then came the Orientation Assembly and a welcome from our Dean. He urged us to start out academically clean. Athletic interest increased with each game, as our hockey and track teams ignited the flame. Our hockey team was on the up-grade. Champs again after crushing Trade. Rallies were held after lunch in the hall, and our teachers could hear us having a ball. But throughout the year when we felt like relaxing, who was there with work that was taxing ? In the woodworking shops we arrived in herds. Remember that voice? “All right, you birds!” And in the lunchroom, to add to our strife, was the lurking T-Service. They hindered our life. The months flew by and when the end was near, we rejoiced at the thought of being sophomores next year. And as we departed for a long summer’s rest, we knew in our hearts that old Tech was the best. Sophomores in ’54, all set for a thrill. What did we get? Oh, no, not drill! “Roll down those sleeves! Button that shirt!” When the General was finished, our pride was hurt. And when we goofed off in the lines, remember that definition, “500 times.” But hidden from the surface was a dark, deep gorge, and Mr. Mower was there to issue a forge. The art of patternmaking came with ease, and most of us found the course a breeze. At Commerce an annex arose this year and we learned to study in a new atmosphere. Some teachers we had in this new-found haven were Messrs. Carey, Packard, McMahon and Avin. ' To Mr. Harrison go untold thanks, for putting up with our numerous pranks. And three cheers for the good Doctor! Of all the teachers we met, here is one we'll never forget. The Reggies were ours, both Outdoor and In. We Class C boys made it possible to win. Mr. Resnick’s “Artisans” continued to delight us. Especially the covers by Maris Platais. As each new report card was received with fear, we anticipated the end of our sophomore year. We commenced our vacation with that Technical spark, after finally reaching the half-way mark. 18
