We did nothing, it seems, but fill out information cards and receipts, and of course there was very little homework. Until we learned our way around the school, we were forever coming into classes late with the silly excuse, “I got lost!” This was. partly due to the upper-classmen who beguiled us continually, sending us up to the swimming pool on the seventh floor, to the telegraph department (the carrier pigeons in the old tower), and to the dark and dreary forge shop.

We were directed to the modernistic splendor of the audi- torium, where we listened to an orientation address by Mr. Walter T. Dur- nan, our headmaster. In his welcome he stressed the importance of retain- ing Technical’s high traditions and keeping the school spirit prevailing throughout our four-year stay. We were then assigned to our respective home-rooms where we began the long year.
