x) the Viele S the (Gir Ofe SDR ee I want to extend my sincere thanks to you for your kindness in dedicating the Year Book to me this year. It is one of the nicest things that has happened to me in thirty years of teach- ing. I only hope that the services of the Guidance Department have been of sufficient value to you to merit this token of your good will. I wish you the best of everything in the years that lie ahead of you. As to the future of your generation I am optimistic. Despite threats of war abroad and certain conditions here at home that we can hardly be proud of, it is on the whole a good world that you are about to enter and most of the people in it are good people. Opportunities for those who want to go to college or to other institutions of higher learning were never better. For those of you who are going immediately into industry, employ- ment prospects are only fair at present, but they should improve by the time you graduate. I am convinced that fine things are in store for the American people and that we are going to achieve in this country a higher standard of living and a greater measure of happiness than any we have known before. I further believe that we shall attain this goal in the lifetime of most of the members of your class. It’s great to be young in times like these, with your life ahead of you and with so much to look forward to. My fondest hope for each one of you is that you will always retain the buoy- ancy, optimism, and enthusiasm of your youth, and that life will be a glorious adventure for you to the last day that you live. I congratulate you upon the successful completion of your high school course and I cordially invite you to drop in at the Guidance Office anytime you feel that we can be of service to you. HERBERT P. CARTER, Guidance Counselor
