You are fortunate. You need only look at what you have accomplished and you have the perfect reason to celebrate. You are men and women of accomplishment! That is really what the degree should be — B.A., Bachelor of Accomplishment. Each year we seem to spend so much time studying those students who dropped out. Why? we ask. I think we should study our graduates, our real success stories. For you are the winners: you have taken the prize. CONGRATULATIONS ! Jaiies V. Dyer March 28, 1958 November 3, 1980 Maura E. Dyer, age 22, died suddenly November 3, 1980, the victim of a hit-and-run auto accident. The tragic and unnecessary loss of her life has deeply touched her family, her many friends, and the community in which she lived. Maura was a unique and loving person who was very involved with and proud of her community, church, her heritage and her friends. The loss of such a beautiful person has touched many, many people. Maura was a past employee of the National Parks Service in Boston. She took great pride in being a Bostonian and being a tour guide for visitors to the National Monument at which she worked. Maura was also a past employee of the Beatrice Marie Nursing Home and would brighten many a patients ' day with her gentleness, caring, and her contagious laughter. Her understanding and caring of the elderly were very deep and special in a world where this is so often absent. Maura was an active parishioner at St. Brendan ' s Church in Dorchester. Her strong faith reflected in her life and in her dealings with others. She attended kindergarten through grade 8 at St. Brendan ' s Grammar School and continued her education at St. Gregory ' s High School, where she graduated in 1976. Schooling and scholastics never came easy to Maura, but she applied herself and always gave her best effort as was her way in everything she did. Maura was currently a member of the class of 1981 at Boston State College, majoring in Criminal Justice. Maura was also a member of St. Brendan ' s Women ' s Bowling League, an activity which she enjoyed very much and excelled in as well. Three years ago, Maura became involved in the Keltic Camogie Club and was one of its most active members. She was Secretary of and instrumental in the organization of the Keltic Camogie Club in Boston. An outstanding athlete, competitor, and sportsman, Maura always gave 100% plus in every competition. Maura was an outgoing, expressive and enthusiastic person who thoroughly enjoyed life. She took great pleasure in riding her bike or taking long walks with friends. She had such a positive and lasting impression on people she encountered. Even if you had just met her once, you remembered her; she had a way about her that touched so many. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing Maura can feel personally how much each of us has grown from her friendship. Her outgoing way, her concern, her laughter and joy, her positive attitude and caring are truely admirable qualities that she possessed. One can say that Maura LIVED each day to the fullest. We can all learn a lesson from her example. The Dyer family is very proud of the beautiful person Maura was. Although nothing can replace Maura, her memory will never leave us.
