WILLIAM FRANCIS LOONEY ON THE TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS INSTALLATION AS PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE 13t-  -:r- ' .v Fl ADMINI TE TION My heartiest congratulations and best wishes go to you, the Class of 1968, on the completion of your undergraduate careers. In every way you have shown yourselves conscientious, loyal, and fully worthy of that success for which 1 am sure you are destined. When, in 1948 I became President of the Teachers College of the City of Boston, there was a student enrollment of less than 300 in addition to a faculty of only 40. In the years since then, I have had the extreme pleasure of guiding the college through various stages of development. In 1952, after great efforts on our part to convince the legislature of the wisdom of the move, we became the State Teachers College at Boston. Ten years later, our degree-granting powers were expanded, and we became the State College at Boston. In addition to the students in the Evening Division and the Extension Program, we now have a day enrollment of over 4000 and a faculty of almost 280. The physical plant has grown with the completion of the Kennedy Science Building, the new gymnasium, and the recent acquisitions of land and buildings near the college, most notably the facility on Ipswich Street. Looking back on these years of dynamic growth gives me much personal satisfaction. Looking forward to the glowing future of the College fills me with the excitement of anticipation. I hope that every member of the class of 1968 will actively share this future with us. One way you can do so is by joining your Alumni Association. May God grand you long and happy lives blessed with personal good fortune and outstanding service to your communities. William F. Looney President 10 Dr. William F. Looney President 11 DR. ROBERT J. ' Sure TIDE is good, but CHEER gives you a much whiter white And from the day I was hatched, my old man kept saying ' Go to college and broaden your horizons . . . ' ' Here, Cath, put this one in your purse. Look, Hon, only three cavities this time. ' Don ' t look now, but ... I think we just got taken. ' Little Bo-Peep has lost her . . . But don ' t worry I ' ll find the Minutes. ' 342 ' Pucker pretty. Please. 343 From the Editor In the usual course of events, a book can be only as good as the ability of its authors. Without this ability, the long hours of hard work, the sweat over copy, the proof reading of material, the footwork of the advertising stafT — all is in vain. As Editor of Lampas 1968, I have been fortunate in my staff and its ability. Trying to put out the largest yearbook B.S.C. has yet seen is an awesome task but it became easier with. SALLY ARICO JONES, My associate Editor providing lots of encouragement to a new editor. MAUREEN CLARK, the Layout Editor, providing the artistry the rest of us lack. STRAT VALAKIS, JOHN FITZGERALD, AND TOM REARDON, providing a lot of ideas and footwork. JOHN HOWLAND, our own green giant, an able layout assistant. PAUL YOVINO keeping the books straight. JIM DIVVER providing photos and lots of bandages. And mostly the large number of class members, many formal staff members and others who helped when we needed it, cried when we cried, and smiled when we went to press a week late. To WM. J. KELLER INC., and JOE DONOVAN, many thanks for undying patience, patience, and more patience. To all the staff, I only hope you have enjoyed working on this book as much as I have. Many thanks for a job very well done. John Tieso 344 LIBRARY OF THE STATE COLLEGE AT BOSTON LIBRARY OF THE STATE COLLEGE AT BOSTON
