Mr. Michael G. Contompasis ' 57 Messages TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1977; I congratulate you, the Class of 1977, for the truly out- standing achievement and honor that you have brought to yourself and your Alma Mater. Your dedication and devotion to duty have been exemplary. The years that you have spent here may often have seemed long, arduous, and frustrating. Many of you have not yet fully realized the value of the Latin School experience. The exposure to a stiff curriculum, the hours spent in preparation for your daily work, the strict adherence to rules and regulations have provided you with the necessary background to further your personal and academic careers. You have been given the means to succeed. A great deal now depends upon how well you apply the lessons learned at the Boston Latin School. Be ever mindful of your responsibilities to your parents, your school and your commu- nity. Be especially loyal to Alma Mater. Aid her in every way so that she may continue to provide your successors with the opportunities that you have received. Make it a point to provide the support needed to help future Latin School stu- dents. I congratulate you again for your interest, your cooperation and your successes. I wish you well and Godspeed. Don ' t Forget us! The Secretaries SEATED: Mrs. Curadossi. STANDING: Mrs. McCanhy and Mrs. Mahoney. 7

Headmasters’ This year has been an unusual one for the Boston Latin School. The retirement of Dr. O’Leary at the end of last year left an ominous gap in the administration of the school. In September, Mr. David Miller, a teacher at BLS for thirty-five years was appointed Acting Headmaster until a screening board could select a man or woman for the permanent position. In mid-January we learned of their decision and on February 28, 1977, it was made official; Mr. Michael G. Contompasis ' 57 was to be our new headmaster. Both of these two distinguished sons of Latin have consented to address the senior class in this issue of the Liber Actorum. “Vos Exituros Salutamus” Mr. David Miller As you complete one chapter of your life story and prepare to start another, you find yourself in a world of turmoil, unrest, and uncertainty - especially true in your own city with its desegregation problems, its financial difficulties, and its political system being questioned by concerned citizens. 0 Tempora, O Mores, your school has been under constant pressure and has not been immune to these problems. Yet the school has continued to provide you a meaningful education and has pre- pared you to meet whatever challenges are in store for you in the future. On the other side of the ledger, the school is grateful to you, the Class of 1977, for not throwing in the towel, for your desire to learn, and for your accomplishments. Special congratulations are due to you for your fortitude and tenacity in acquiring an education under stresses and strains not felt by previous graduates. Our goal has been to send forth young men and women of fine character who will play an important part in the affairs of the community. The city, state, and country will be only as good as you, its citizens, make it. Your school will only be as good as its students and you graduates make it. Your school will need all the support it can muster to keep it a viable institution. In my three score and plus years, nothing has given me greater satisfaction than serving as your Acting Headmaster. Thank you! And now, Vos exituros salutamus. 6
