DEDICATED TO . . Albert J. Van Steenbergen Belgian born and educated, Mr. Albert J. Van Steenbergen came to the United States just after serving in the Belgian army in W.W. I. Appointed to B.L.S. as a “temporary” teacher in 1929, “Mr. Van” stayed on until June, 1971, serving first as German and French master, a department head and finally, as assistant headmaster. Not only did he aid Latin School boys in their intellectual developement, but won nationwide acclaim as a great teacher and scholar when in 1954-55, he served on the original commitee to set up the Advanced Placement program. Mr. Van Steenberger brought more to the Lat- in School than just pure knowledge. His bi-cul- tural background, Belgian and So. Boston-Rox- bury, served to enhance the development of the men of Latin School. Since his untimely retire- ment due to illness at the end of last year, he has been sorely missed, and always will be missed by those who knew him intimately, casually and also by those who only know him by reputation. It is with much, much pride that we, the class of 1972 dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Albert J. Van Steenbergen. 4

Aaron Gordon Aaron Gordon began teaching history at the Boston Latin School in the fall of 1929. He has been an integral part of the Boston Latin School Faculty for the past 43 years. During these years, he coached track and tennis, produced op- perettas and was faculty advisor to the Register and Yearbook for over twenty years. The many friendships that were made during these years have been a source of ongoing joy for him . He was a “Latin School boy” himself and has always remained one in his feelings for the school and its students. We, the senior class, wish to extend to him our thanks for these many years and wish him many years of health and happiness. 5 m
