been given the correct stort here... In these days of great scientific advancement, there is a constant urge for increased attention to mathematics and scientific studies. In the various national publications, over the radio and on TV, we are constantly being reminded of the need for mathematicians and scientists. There is no question as to the truth of these appeals. We are wholly i'n agreement with all that is being said. However, one fact is being overlooked. No matter how well-trained a man may be in mathematics, in physics, in chemistry or in any other scientific field, he is not worth his salt unless he is able to communicate his ideas either orally or in writing to others. Statements made by university and professional leaders bear this out. They insist that, along with the intensive training necessary in mathematics and the sciences, there is an even greater need for a sound foundation in the humanities, in English, in the Social Studies, and in the languages. The training you have received at the Boston Latin School has given you the start necessary for you to build this foundation. Our classical program is just the one necessary for the background you will need if you intend to follow along in the path you have already started. For those of you who are not intent upon a scientific future, be sure that your program is such that you, too, have included in it the subjects necessary for a well-rounded education. Too much emphasis in any one branch is not what an educated person should have. Whether your field is the languages, social sciences, or something else, you will need to implement these specialties with subjects in fields outside your own. You have been given the correct start here. Our classical program is an integral part of you. Follow it through and your education will be a real one.
