N M. :Q LLLL. . fi? The awarding of a diploma on graduation night should not be considered the mere fulfillment of a high school career, but a lasting bond which will keep us, as a class, united throughout future years. As time elapses, our paths will, inevitably, diverge into many directionsg in spite of that, the relation- ships which we have made here at Latin School must never diminish. We are about to enter a totally different way of life, in a world confused and befuddled by many complexities. Former generations of Latin School alumni ac- cepted every uncertainty, whether it was the threat of war or impending diplomatic or financial crises. They did not despairg with determination and a willingness to sacrifice they met every challenge. Why then should we despair? True, the obstacles which we face seem greaterg however, if we are to follow the fine example set by former graduates we must accept our challenges and strive to conquer them in the same spirit which they displayed. The world situation with which we must cope is precarious, but we should encounter it with faith and fortitude. We have received a Boston Latin School edu- cation, which, in itself, has proven beneficial to our predecessors. The Latin School curriculum is devised to develop, not only the mind, but also the entire man-mentally, physically, emotionally, and I might even add, spiritually. Moreover, in our associations in school, we have lived amid ideals of American Democracy. We have stood together as a practical example of an associa- tion, upholding the rights and privileges of each individual, regardless of his background or religious beliefs. This type of experience will be of inestimable value in the particular fields we shall pursue in the future. Whether this choice be technological or professional, a Latin School education has prepared us, but even more important, it has prepared us to live in harmony with and respect for our fellow man. Education means training-training that involves mental and moral discipline, ability to evaluate with proper discretion, and to form conclusions based upon such evaluations. This is the type of training to which we have been exposed, and with which we are equipped to face the future with confidence of success. As your president, I extend to you my most heartfelt wishes for the success of your future. I7 ii-if' ,Mmm PRESIDENT CLASS OF '59 Siu?-' Ee
