HIGHLIGHTS OF FOUR MEMORABLE YEARS HISTORY OF FIRST YEAR 1945 46 A new record was added to the dls llI1g,l11Sh6Cl past of Boston College Hlgh xx hen the reglstratlon 0ff1C9 was stormed xx1th 583 appllcatlons all of wh1ch were lccepted Thls marked the entrance of our freshman class and gaxe promlse of frultful xears to come We enjoved the CllStII1Ct1OI'l of belng annexed to the recentlx acqulred bu1ld1ng on Massachu setts Avenue However a competent group of scholarshlp winners acted as our representatlves ln the main bu1ld nw The first dav of class Recall It 7 Tense antlclpation strange faces frantic search for classrooms a mad scramble for seats near the window all these un lmportant factors accented the drawn atmosphere of those mormng hours Mental straln was relleved to some ex tent bv the showmg of a popular film Captam Eddle IH the high school audl torlum Yet thls was the lull before the storm as we were to dlscover and text books occupled our attentlon from there As the davs evolved 1nto weeks strong frlendshlps were founded and gradual acqualntanceshlps w1th the faculty mem bers resulted Rev Joseph E McGrady SJ held the respons1b1l1t1es of the Dean wh1le Rev James J Lyons SJ capablx and tlrelesslv drllled the funda mentals of d1sc1pl1ne 1nto our class rou txne and Rev Lawrence Rvan SJ mln lstered to our Splfltual needs as Student Counselor Under the dlrectxon of Fathers Murphy Dalley Rxan Ennls Drea Lvnch Caffertv McManus Kel lex Fox Shea Walsh Donohue and Delanev Messrs Connolly Casey Burke Hanlon Hammond and Hagerty all of the SOC16tX of Jesus and Messrs OKeefe Glntoff Feelex and Browne our freshman xear reaped a splendld harxest The untlmelx death of two well known classmates Edward Sulllvan and Dan McGaff1n dampened an otherwlse happy and profitable vear Though Shvlock was deprlved of h1s pound of flesh we w1ll1nglx bartered our spare welght IH help1ng to boost the bulldlng fund for the new B C Hlgh from wh1ch we dreamed of graduatlng The generous freshman Splrlt undoubt edlx furthered th1s xxorthx objectlxe Rax mond Kennx Peter lNoonan and John McLellan represented our class ln the McElroy prlze debate under the supervlslon of Mr Burke SJ Parents Nlght offered an enJoyable assortment of freshman talent and a sultable occaslon for our parents and friends to become WISE 1n the wavs of the Jesults Another freshman to be showered Wlth laurels was a dynamlc puckster Bob Greene who earned a letter for h1s brllllant defense work on the squad Wlth more than elghty per cent of the freshmen attendlng Sodallty meetlngs throughout the year a magmficent re ceptlon took place ln the Immaculate Conceptlon Church hlghllghtlng the close of the year Leavlng our famlllar haunts IH the beloved annex we looked forward to future success 1n the age old bulldlngs on James Street JOHN MACDONALD Remembel V Thx ough thls entrance we 17 I I I v v ' , , . .
