'-Pg hilhkx N lm tual 4 Q W l xl OCKEY one of the most excltlng and mterestlng sports ln the calendar .nc ll? of the seasans has always found a warm welcome at Boston College Hlgh School Every ycal a team has carrled the bann rs of the school to the hlghest place ln the ranks of schoolboy Ice teams and has ever .B J, gamed the greatest pralse and recogmtxon from the newspapel wrlters Vu That IS the only place where we coull get recognltlon because of the pecullar status of the school The publlc schools have the prlvllege of the Arena for thelr games but thxs IS hlred for them by the School Commlttee of Boston and SIDCG B C Hlgh IS not a publlc school we are glad to be admltted to these prlvlleges as guests Formerly there was a league of CltV Schools and a tltle of Clty Champnon was awarded to the best team B C Hlgh was not ellglble for this honor as IS natural slnce It was a prlvate school but she played all the teams of the league and had the pleasure and glory of defeatmg the very best of them declsnvely Thls past season there was no league In our first year at the school the class of 1928 saw a hockey team that was captamed and coached by Ed Shney Blg Ed led a team that easlly defeated all the cxty slxes and was beaten only by the champlons of the state The team ln 1926 was led by b1g and blonde Paul Comerford who has been starrmg for the past year for the Holy Cross sextette Paul was captam and coach and the team had a most successful season bemg defeated only by a couple In the beglnnlng of the season of 1927 Mr Francls W Anderson S J kindly consented to be coach of the team and at once a new era was lmtlated m our hockey cxrcles, for the new coach was a great student of the game and had a very clever way of lmpartmg the knowledge whlch he had galned from watching and playlng Thus the team of 1927 whlch was almost undone because of lack of ICQ and a rmk for practlce had a very successful year Under the leader ship of Tom Carey they were admltted as guests to the City League where they defeated all the leaders of the league Our Semor year saw a new group of players under the same coach and thlg season can be sald to be the most successful of all because thls year we played all the clty hlgh schools but were not debarred from gettmg credlt for our vlctorxes Thxs gave a hlgh mcentlve to the players and they worked mlght and maln to keep the Maroon and Old Gold colors at the top For a long time Captaln Eddle Gallagher was the hlgh scorer ln the league and was onlv beaten ln the last game by Hughes of Engllsh and that only because Engllsh played a couple of games more than we and agalnst easy teams Bud Sulhvan was a new man ln the regular llne up but he was a sweet defense man as was also Bud Murphy Together wlth the tall Slattery they kept our goal remark ably safe Walter Kelley was a star at wing and Robmson and Tansey were clever guardlans of the net Ed Martm due to ellglblllty rules dld not play m the games wlth the cxty schools, but he played a wonderful game agalnst Rmdge Tech between the halves of the thlrd B C H C game at the Arena Most of the team ln our Semor year were members of the class of 1928 and that they achxeved such success was the natural outcome of the Splrlt of that vear which always drove xts members on to be leaders ln anythmg m whlch they partlclpated Agam lt was team play that made our success possxble, and the team play was made posslble only by the self sacrifice of the members of '28, who dally made the long trip to Chandler's Pond to practlce Page One Hundred Flfty nine .-- ,:- - 1.-1.
