O' 'II' o' I 0, U Senior Again tl1e class returned to find Mr. Matthews as its professor. Immediately it delved under his guidance into the lore of Homer and Vergil. Mr. Kennedy came in daily to puzzle with his trig, it seemed hopeless at first and yet we managed to pull through in masterly fashion. It seems a.s though this great class was destined to close its final year with a blaze of glory. Though leaders at all times, in our senior year we have especially forged to the front and held a leader in every phase of school activities. In athletics to start with, we set up an enviable record. Hats off to Mecca McCarthy, our All-Scholastic end! The hockey team, under Captain Ed Sliney, won the City Championship. In basket- ball we were well represented, while the baseball team, with Captain McCarthy, its peerless leader has already hung up a string of vic- tories. But in scholastic endeavor we especially led. J. Austin De- venny captured the twenty-tive dollars in gold offered to the winner of the Senior Elocution C-ontest, it being the fourth time that a stu- dent of Mr. Matthews won the coveted honor. In the Bapst, Henry Leen was chosen to lead our famous inter-scholastic debaters. On' the stage, our brilliant elocutionist, John' Fitzgerald, again starred in leading roles. The Christmas number of the- Botolphian found Bill Healy with a prize. winning story. But why go on? Another signal honor was that of leading tl1e school in the Jesuit Seminary Fund Drive. This was due in great part to the splendid dilige-nce and labor of a few boys coupled with the co-opera- tion of the whole class. We feel that especial thanks should be tendered to the Messrs. Gillooly, Sullivan, Hagerty, Hartnett, Hagan, Ochs, Sughrue, Kearns, Hanlon, and Carey, although every one of the boys was untiring in his efforts. The year in the cla.ss was a happy one. Despite the cries of 'fprattv and 'fdragv the 'class worked as a unit as the results show. Early in the year, the class voted on having a year book, and every- one is to be congratulated for his interest. in its behalf. Good old Steve has held this honor, or at least office, consistentlys the past four years. He is undoubt- edly the most popular man among us and yet it is difficult to say just why. He has a simple, charming, pleasing personality, that has endeared him to us all. At first we liked Cav because he was an athlete and that meant much to our childish freshman minds, in our sophomore and junior days Cav was always our leader for he was a real boy, exemplified to a high degree, and now in our staid and serious senior days we have come to respect, admire and revere Cav-the man! Hie played center on the football team during his four-year sojourn with us 3 and now in his final year he is chosen for the senior elocution contest. We are sure the hall will echo a.nd re-echo to the tones of his forceful voice. For Cav possesses the fluency, ease and diction of a born orator. We intend to be present when he is crowned-Mayor of Norwood. I
