Some fifty of these some six hundred youths were, in the due process of time, gathered together within the sheltering walls of Class I F. How strange everything seemed then, how be- wildered we were! The best friend most of us ever had and prob- ably ever will have, opened the door and walked into our first day in class, to -start us on that long road that leads to the coveted diploma. We called him Father that first day and though we were wrong in so doing-for Freshmen are always wrong-yet that title was most appropriate, for he has proven himself to be a. kind father to us all in the past four years. September passed quickly and we became more accustomed. to our surroundings. Within the classroom we were slowly but surely learning the rudinients of Latin and Algebra 3 not to mention History, English and other studies as taught by Mr. Matthews, S. J., Mr. Barter, S. J., and Mr. Dempsey. Outside the classroom we were gradually realizing that those lordly Seniors, who stared down so patronizingly from. their self-erected pedestals upon us, insignificant Freshmen, were human beings like ourselves, modelled from the self-same clay. These and other facts were dawning upon us, as we began our second month of B. C. High. About this time we held our class elections, and as a result of these, we named as our officers for the first term: President, John McCrohan, Vice-President, Hugh McGuire, Secretary, Eugene Swanson, Treasurer, Justin Connors, Beadle, Arthur Dolan. . During this first term, many honors came to our class and notable among these was the winning of the five-dollar g-old piece for the best story written for the Botolphian by a Freshinan--said Freshman being Henry Sheridan. Also, Bernard Creamer from Low- ell was the Freshman star on the High School football tea.1n. But amidst the sunshine came a cloud which marred our joy, for our beloved professor's sister passed away. However, the class was very proud of having made a spiritua.l bouquet f-or the repose of her soul. Then came a few weeks of hust.le and bustle andj Christmas and a two weeks' vacation were upon us. Q When we assembled again in January, we elected class officers for the second term and they were: President, Stephen Cavanaugh,

THE FORBIAN Vice-President, Dennis Sughrueg Treasurer, John Hartnett, Secre- tary, Paul Marlowe, Beadle, Arthur Dolan. The class safely weathered the storm of mid-year vxauiimitions and turned to the second term in earnest. During this term we held our Iirst class social. An attractive program and menu was pro- vided by Mr. Matthews, S. J., and-well, a. good time was had by all. Our class drew first blood in forensic endeavors when John L. MCCPOIIRH won the Juniorplilocution Prize. In passing, I would like to call attention here to the fact that every medal and prize in elo- cution and debating in the High School has been won each year by various members of the class. Thus passed our Freshman year at Boston College High School and I am sure that I express the unani- mous sentiment of old I F when I say it was a year replete with joys and successes.
