t THE FORBIAN t mfmdmwwfmdmmfmmkacwmdmmfmmfmmvm SZESQDWWQDWQOWWWMGWWQSWWQWQWW Foreword In striving to materia.lize this little book, the editors have worked with several principles in mind. -They have endeavored to set down not only their impressions, but actually to complete' a record that would in later life bring back to all a flooding memory of high school days, and so, perhaps, in searching for inannerisins and character- istics, they have omitted details of greater importance. At all times they have tried to be natural and characteristically boyish, they have thrown perfection of style and technique to the winds, it is only, nor does it pretend to be other than, the work -of school boys. The editors have triedto give credit where credit is due, remembering the words of someone who has gone before: Ulf you have anything g-ood to say about a man, say it now g he cannot read his epitaph when mmm A Word of Appreciation , he is dead. . THE Enrrons. We say we have tried to give credit where credit it due. So per- haps, a word of two of grateful appreciation would not be out of place here. To you, dear parents whose loving guidance and care, and in many cases, sacriiices have kept us here through? four years of high school, we can never hope to express our gratitude nor even to repay the debt we owe you. To Father Rector and to the two Prefects we are duly appreciative and grateful, we realize their untiring zeal and solicitudei on our behalf. Mere words of thanks are not fitting to tender our professor for four years, but we are truly grateful as we are to all those men who have truly aided us through our difficulties. 'To all our friends who have encouraged us and espe- cially to all those- who have helped us in the forming of this book, in short, to anyone who in any way has lightened' our work or smoothed our way through school, we offer heartfelt thanks. mmmmmmmm

THE FORBIAN 21' 'pas alibi- asp-Gin -visavv asfvqoe-as o-62'-o as-goofs --sis - .gg o gg ...-' .- .... 0' I Freshman VW QS' .3 i The month of September in the year 1921 found some six hun- dred boys answering to the famous nine o'clock chimes of Boston College High. Some fifty of these some six hundred youths were, in the due process of time, gathered together within the sheltering walls of Class I F. How strange everything seemed then, how be- wildered we were! The best friend most of us ever had and prob- ably ever will have, opened the door and walked into our first day in class, to -start us on that long road that leads to the coveted diploma. We called him Father that first day and though we were wrong in so doing-for Freshmen are always wrong-yet that title was most appropriate, for he has proven himself to be a. kind father to us all in the past four years. September passed quickly and we became more accustomed. to our surroundings. Within the classroom we were slowly but surely learning the rudinients of Latin and Algebra 3 not to mention History, English and other studies as taught by Mr. Matthews, S. J., Mr. Barter, S. J., and Mr. Dempsey. Outside the classroom we were gradually realizing that those lordly Seniors, who stared down so patronizingly from. their self-erected pedestals upon us, insignificant Freshmen, were human beings like ourselves, modelled from the self-same clay. These and other facts were dawning upon us, as we began our second month of B. C. High. About this time we held our class elections, and as a result of these, we named as our officers for the first term: President, John McCrohan, Vice-President, Hugh McGuire, Secretary, Eugene Swanson, Treasurer, Justin Connors, Beadle, Arthur Dolan. . During this first term, many honors came to our class and notable among these was the winning of the five-dollar g-old piece for the best story written for the Botolphian by a Freshinan--said Freshman being Henry Sheridan. Also, Bernard Creamer from Low- ell was the Freshman star on the High School football tea.1n. But amidst the sunshine came a cloud which marred our joy, for our beloved professor's sister passed away. However, the class was very proud of having made a spiritua.l bouquet f-or the repose of her soul. Then came a few weeks of hust.le and bustle andj Christmas and a two weeks' vacation were upon us. Q When we assembled again in January, we elected class officers for the second term and they were: President, Stephen Cavanaugh,
