SEC ETA Y S EPUR February 4 1979 The Thrrtreth Annual Banquet of the New England Evangelrcals was held last january 29th rn the spacrous Presrdentral Room of the Rrtz Carlton As I entered I was met by Maryhelen Veno a housewrfe who was doublrng as hostess at thrs never to be forgotten affarr She led me to my table and whrle I adjusted myself to the surroundrngs I notrced the well known play boy Clyde Alcorn who had just returned from a pleasure trrp to Rome and who so the socrety news sard had left many broken hearts by hrs return here Wrth hrm at the table were joan Benson the star of the Mam moth Rodeo berng held at the Boston Crvrc Center and Elrzabeth Grondal recently returned from her mrssronary statron rn japan As soon as Allen Moores mrnrster of the Seventh Methodrst Church of Everett had grven the rnvocatron the warterrng crew headed by Dean McPhee brought on the meal Upon nudgrng the person besrde me to drscover who the caterer was I found josephrne Verrengra now marrred and wrth a set of twrns both of whrch are at Chrrstran Hrgh She rnformed me that Gordon Fagerstrom of Dorchester was the caterer R Allen McMrllan owner of the Royal Lrne of Hotels extendrng from Boston to Florrda had donated the hall for the occasron and Gordon Fagerstrom had donated the cost of the meal As I was enyoyrng the meal I heard a loud scream and lookrng up I saw the rllustrrous Ruth Nlrcholl model for the Powers Agency reprrmandrng Dean McPhee for sprllrng rce cream all over her new jacques Frth gown a drrect rmport from Parrs Wrth Mrss Nrcholl were Nancy Loverrng rn her homemade Chrnchrlla coat the busrness rn whrch she made her fortune and Mrss Joan Mfrrtrn a mrssronary recently returned from Afrrca The meal berng over Davrd Crook Presrdent of the assocratron acknowledged the help he had been grven The promrnent rnterror decorator Nancy Westmoreland had desrgned the large hall Dorothy Whrtney had charge of the publrcrty and Cynthra Gray Detrort poetess had wrrtten a beautrful poem commemoratrng the occasron We were then led rn srngrng by Davrd Gordon now drrector of Ted Macks Amateur Hour who also favored us wrth an accordron solo After that Shrrley Gould a srnger wrth the Brlly Graham Evangelrstrc Crusade sang her rendrtron of the Lord s Prayer Edward Barrett then gave us a number on hrs new rnventron a portable prpe organ The chorrs of CH S gave several well presented numbers The new hnancral charrman Bob Peterson started the annual drrve wrth a lengthy and descrrptrve account of the schools need for a new swrmmrng pool fthe old one had worn outj and just how much rt would cost Followrng that talk Brll Horner gave hrs famous present tron of hrs own Lost Concerto the marn feature of whrch rs swallowrng the prnt srzed harmonrca After hrs number a loud clapprng attracted my 'rttentron to a nearby table It was none other than Reverend Carlton Dodge mrnrster from Provrdence and the former Dorrs Folsom I waved and they rmmedrately qureted down Seated at the head table was Lrllran Hustrns the second Mrs Kellersburger who rs campargn rng for somethrng QI dont remember whatl and Betty Westrne an expert on French Affarrs for the Greyhound Bus Lrnes They were rntroduced by Dave Crook after whrch they gave therr testrmonres I heard a flourrsh behrnd me and on lookrng back saw Mrss Harrret Nygaard Englrsh teacher at the newly rmproved C H S It seems that she was just arrrvrng flate as usuall Srttrng wrth her were Roberta Nordstrom the home economrcs teacher and Vrrgrnra Nelson hard borled head of the Grrl s Athletrc Department We were all sorry that Arlene Seaqurst was mrssrng but she was too rnvolved rn a busrness venture a down town luncheon to be able to attend The evenrng was well spent by the trme the speaker Dr Dlyrd Whollman Presrdent of World Lnrversrty was rntroduced He brought us a short t1lk on the subject Deep In The Heart Of Taxes In a more serrous vern the members of the class expressed to me that through the years they have felt more 1nd more the rmpact of Chrrstran Hrgh on the sprrrtual foundatrons of therr lrves Respectfully submrtted I Merlyn Hewrtt Secy of Alumnr Affarrs s . . , . . . . 1 1 , 1 ' 1 1 1 1 . , ' 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 - 1 1 a - . . , 1 Y .
