Dear Mrs. Strickland: This is just a little thank you note in appreciation for the many times you've given of your time and energy to instruct us in the way we should go. We can never express in words our true feelings in regard to the interest you've had in our class. It is little thanks in itself but . . . for your love for us, your testimony for our Lord and Saviour, your devo- tion to the cause of Christ . . . for all these and many more we dedicate this, the Lantern of 1954, to you. In Christ, The Senior Class of 1954 As ye have therefore received Christ jesus the Lord, .fo walk ye in Him: rooted and built up in Him, and .ftahlished in the faith as ye have been taught, ahounding therein with thanksgiving. Let these words be the basic message from the new principal to his first graduating class -the Class of 1954. It has been a busy and exciting year for all of us, yet the specific de- tails will grow dim as other years demand our attention. One thing is certain, however- that jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. May God bless each of you and keep you walking in Him as you take the next step in your future. We started in October with a meetin in Woburn, and continued into Ma with I 8 Y meetings twice a month throughout the Eastern Massachusetts area. In this over fifteen different churches of many denominations were reminded that there is a truly Christian High School. The Wednesday meetings have been a source of constant spiritual bless- ing and growth through the many wonderful speakers that we have had the privilege of hearing. We trust God to continue to bless those who faithfully serve Him. The officers for this year were David Wollman, PreJicl'e1zt,' Robe Vii'e-Preridezzlx Roberta Nordstrom, Set'1'e1in'y,' R. A new fea- ture was that the play ran for two nights, March 15 and 16, at Brooks Hall, Dudley Street Baptist Church. Through the many long hours of rehearsal and putting the play together, the Senior Class was ably coached by Mr, Roland Kimball, to whom the class as well as the whole school expressed their apprecia- tion for the line job he had done. Condon, The Mighty Trojans lBASlKlETlBAlLlL The most outstanding aspect of the Christian life is its xvholenessg integrat- ing every phase of our life and learning into a harmonious whole, which is the abundant life we have in the Lord jesus Christ. Sports are important at Christian High School, not just for entertainment and physical fitness, but to sharpen senses, develop good sportsmanship and initiative, and to use our talents for the glory of our Lord jesus Christ. Seldom is the student body so united as when it rises to its feet cheering the Blue and XVhite through an overtime period of a basketball game, or watch- ing a mighty blast oft a Trojan bat during a tense moment on baseball diamond. 5.1.50 4-4' X ,Lf x GTI' iv, Skull sessionur -Coath. Bob Peterson, Hill Horner and llob XYcst to shoulder the load of the coming season. This trio was aided by junior Ed t'ondnn and Sophomore David Rivers, a newcomer from llelmont, who rounded out the starting five. ln spite of having to rebuild and the constant pressure of fouling out, The Five Horsemen, have become the miracle tealn of Christian High. Playing practically every minute of every game, the Trojans have developed into the finest team ever to wear the blue and white of Christian High. The tremendous competitive spirit, team play and hustle, in spite of over- whelming odds and unbelievable handicaps have been the main reason for a highly successful season. They were led by their able forward and Captain Bob Peterson, whose spirit and sparkling all-round play was a key factor in many of the Trojans' victories. Versatile llill lloruer, another mainstay of the forward wall, combined a deadly one-handed push with unusual driving ability, constantly keeping the opponents on the defensive. The Trojans' Mr, Clutch reached his peak in the New Prep game when he hit for 29 points, with 15 of those being from the foul line. Averaging 17 points per game, -llill has led the team in scor- iug and foul shooting through the season. Playing his first year as a varsity man, center Ed Condon has improved in lt-:ips and bounds through the Season. His aggressive, steady play has guided the club through many a crucial moment in the games. The two backcourt men, Bob 1Vest and Dave Rivers have been stalwarts on defense and outstanding play makers. XV:-st, a tremendous com- petitor down the home stretch of a game, has stepped to the foul line in the waning moments of a contest, and clinched the game with a pair of free throws. In addition to his backcourt ability, Bob has been a demon ofif the defensive boards, which has cooled off many an attack of our opponents. Dave Rivers proved to he the find of the year, as he immediately displayed the finesse of an experienced ballplayer in every phase of the game. A hard driving guard, excel- lent shot and aggressive defensive man, Rivers has been the mainstay of many a close contest. The jayvees composed of dead eye, Dave Condon, Richard Espenhain, David Folsom, Cameron Ainsworth, XYesley Dodge, Paul Murphy, and Dean McPhee have been an inspiring bench always chattering and cheering the Varsity. Christian High can expect great things from them in the days to come. CHRISTIAN EDGES NEU' I'IfIfI'.' Paced by llill Horner, the Trojans opened the season with a thrilling 5.2-50 victory. A close, ragged contest most of the way, which was finally decided in the closing moments of the game via the foul line. This victory started the Trojans quintet off on the right foot and gave them the necessary spirit and hustle for the ensuing contests. AI.UMNl END VARSITY RL'l.I5: For the first time since the beginning of the series the Alumni soundly defeated the Varsity 63-48. This was the feature attraction of the Christmas vacation with such former stars as Ricker, Christensen, 1Yilsou, lllood, Strickland, Nelson, Armstrong, Cook, Anderson, participating in the contest. CHRISTIAN I.OSliS TIIRII.I.l5R TO B 6 N: The Trojans encountered an unbeaten llrown-Nichols team in a game that will long be re- membered as a hair raiser. Trailing throughout most of the contest by 13 or more points, the Trojans gradually cut the lead down to 44-33 at the end of the third quarter. At this point Rivers, an unheralded sophomore personally took over and scored 13 points to tie the game up with less than two minutes to play. XYith victory in sight the Trojans committed a few fouls, and finally lost 57-52. CHRISTIAN AVENGES EARLY IJEFE.-IT Bl' SACRED HEART: Starting off with a few quick baskets, the Trojans jumped off to a quick lead which they never relinquished throughout the game. A game characterized by consistent. alert, team-play gave Christian their first victory over the men from XVeymouth in two years. Capt. Bob Peterson played a brilliant defensive game holding Flaherty the South Shore high scorer 122 pts. per gamej to a meager 10 points .f for the game. Bill Horner and Dave Rivers paced the attack with 16 and 15 points respectively. THAYER AC.s1DE.'lIY EKES OCT TRIUMPH IN CLOSING MINUTES: Playing before an enthusiastic home crowd, the Trojans played the finest basket- ball to be seen in the history of Christian High School. A hard fighting, aggres- sive quintet completely baffled the Thayer team, Leading 25-20 at the half, the upset ot' the year looked possible, Thayer finally cut down the lead by the end of the third quarter to 34-32 in our favor, The inevitable happened: a fourth foul on XYest gave the visiting team the needed spurt to go ahead and finally after a desperate rally in the final minutes the Trojans succumbed to a Sl-41 defeat. CHRISTIAN ON RAJIPACE OVER STOREY: 7551- Speedihustle- and sparkling fast breaks characterized this game from beginning to end. Both teams hitting on practically every shot produced the highest scoring half-time score in many a decade. The Trojans, who started slowly falling behind 20-12 at the end of the first quarter, suddenly became ignited and trampled a perplexed Storey team to half time score of 36-32. Paced by Horner who scored 14 of his 34 points in the second quarter. Christian poured 24 points through the hoop in this quarter to set a new school record. The high flying Trojans continued to force the opponents to shoot from the outside, cleared the boards like demons and then executed a fast break which kept Storey baffled the entire evening. A tre- mendous team vittory, and a thriller from start to finish. 'C' X. -Q 14' Sf' 95, W I .J ix, I 32 S fx' 342 1,8 '- nib, ...J I forex wif Qi Q 1- , K 4 L QL!
