PR TT CHIEF OF STAFF CRUI ER DIVISIO FO R no Captain Richard R. Pratt is in his twenty-third year of naval service. A native of Massachusetts, the Cap- tain entered the Naval Academy in 1932 and graduated with the Class of 1936. A In the years prior to World War II, he served aboard the USS CHESTER and later the Cruiser USS AUGUSTA. At the outbreak of World War II, he was assigned as gunnery officer of the destroyer LANSDOWNE and later served first as executive officer and then commanding officer of the destroyer HUDSON. While serving aboard these two ships he participated in almost every signifi- cant battle in the Pacific Theatre of operations and was personally decorated seven times. Among his many decorations are two awards of the Navy Cross , the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars and the Com- mendation Ribbon. Since World War II Captain Pratt has served suc- cessively as Instructor in Naval Ordnance and Gunnery at the Naval Academy, Commanding officer of the de- stroyer USS HANK, student Naval War College, opera- tions officers of COMDESLANT, with JUSMAAG Spain, Executive Officer USS NEW JERSEY, Commander De- stroyer Division 222 and Executive Officer of Bancroft Hall. The Captain is married and has six children, four boys and two girls.
