Bearkat Babes Build on Expectations of Excellence Impressive may very well be the best one-word description of the Liberty performance according to team captain Carol Jones. Eleven members of the 1985-86 Bossier, High School Bearkat Babes, Sandra Bright, Jill Dillingham, Joy Dillingham, Sheila Friday, Sheila Haynes, Nancy Johnson, Carol Jones, Jeanyne Richard, Tonya Runyan, Laura Shivers, and Amy Thomas were invited to perform at the closing ceremony of Liberty Weekend on July 7, 1986, in New York City. While there, Jill Dillingham, Sheila Friday, Nancy Johnson, and Tony Runyan were chosen as Outstanding members of the Liberty Drill Team. Last spring the team received a Division 1 in the military category at the Six Flags Drill Team com- petition in Dallas, Texas. In July of 1986, the dance team attended the American Drill Team School in Dallas, Texas where they received Divi- sion l in Parade and Dance categories. Four of the ,,, , U 1 Q Q ,. , team members received special awards at this camp. Sheila Friday was chosen as Outstanding Marcher out of the five hundred girls that attended. Jeanyne Richard achieved the honor of becoming a member of the prestigious All American Drill Team, and Sheila Haynes and Nancy Johnson were selected for Who's Who in American Drill Team. Being selected for the American Drill Team and Who's Who are the highest honors in dance competition. In 1986-87 the Babes were invited to perform in the Holiday Bowl at halftime in San Diego, California. They were also invited to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade the week of March 17 in Dublin, Ireland. The team held many fund raising activities such as car washes, dances and selling balloons at football games.
