Bossieris Eight Create School Spirit Go Bearkats, echoed off the walls of the gym of Bossier High School as the eight cheerleaders led the student body during weekly pep rallies. These young people spread the glue that held the team and fans together. In their world of split jumps, cartwheels, and back flips, the cheerleaders' purpose was to create school spirit, loyalty, interest, and good sportsmanship. Head cheerleader, Becky Max- well, said, Although being a cheerleader required a lot of hard work and practice, it was Spirit is shown in many ways. B.H.S. cheerleaders exhibit their spirit as they ride in the Homecoming parade. Gavin Peka and Kevin Robson provided the spirit that led the Bearkats to a 29-27 victory over the Loyola Flyers. Cheerleaders for 86-87 are Kevin Rob- son, Becky Maxwell, Bill Usher, Jeannie Sias, Gavin Peka, Terri Ogden, Charlotte Hinson, and Joyce Western. well worth the effort when the students yelled and the Bearkat team went on to victory. Key Clubbers Provide Community Service Key Club is a service organiza- tion for high school students. It was unique in that it was spon- sored by the local Kiwanis Club. Participation in Key Club serv- ice activities helped members develop initiative, leadership, and good citizenship. ficer's meeting. by area Key clubs. In 1986-87 Bossier High School's Key Club was very ac- tive under the leadership of Larry Layfield, president. Under Coach Bill McConathy, the advisor, they began the year with a divisional rally in Oc- tober and the traditional bum- ing of the KATS at the half-time of the Homecoming game. Members of this organization were kept busy with fund raisers and fun-filled activities throughout the year.
