A Hand in Things to Come The Bluff Echoes 1966 Boscobel High School, Boscobel, Wisconsin Volume LXII Mary Shimpoch, Editor Charlein Craney, Joan Dovig, Advisor Business Manager Patricio Waltz, Layout Editor Table of Contents ACADEMICS ADMINISTRATION ACTIVITIES . ATHLETICS . ADVERTISING . At the conclusion of four full years, We slip from the hand which has molded us To face life as individuals. These four years will be remembered and cherished; If we have successfully met their challenge Of responsibility and opportunity, We can be proud and confident, Facing the future with Youth, enthusiasm, and ambition. Each one of us will have A hand in things to come, Whether we become parents, Dentists, chemists, or lawyers. 'The quality of our four years here Determines the quality of our future. Our role may, or may not, be worthwhile; It is up to us and the way we apply Ourselves, our knowledge, and our abilities. Dedication Mr. David Olson Four years of many endless hours and minutes have been devoted to BHS by Mr. Olson. His concern for students can be seen throughout each year, ashe has willingly offered his advice to students in need of it. He has been the freshman English teacher as well as their advisor this year. Besides his regular duties, Mr. Olson has contributed greatly to class play activi- ties, has given extra time when attending sport functions of the school, and has offered his needed encouragement in our forensic program. To you, Mr. Olson, we present the 1966 Bluff Echoes in appreciation of the many contributions you have made to BHS. Mr. Olson studies class play members. Mr. Olson was commonly seen as the announcer for many athletic events. BOTTOM ROW: B. Ewoldt, .P. Thiele, C. Updike, C. Shipley. ROW TWO: P. Waltz, Layout Editor; M, Shimpach, Editor- in-Chief;C. Only those who have been involved know what goes into the production of a yearbook. The time, the effort, the meeting of all deadlines, and the frustration. Although the membership this year was composed of relatively new students, the enthusiasm and late work- ing hours supplied the tact needed. Besides the hard work that each individual contributed, many enjoyable hours will be remembered. Now that all the deadlines have finally been met, the staff hopes that as you page through your Bluff Echoes you will receive some fraction of the pleasure which the staff derived from producing it. The Vocal Department has a new group this year. Composed of twenty students, the A Cappella chorus, contributed a great deal to the new program. Under the direction of Mr. Peterson, the students were encouraged to listen as well as sing. The improvement in tone quality and blend was shown by the three concert performances that were presented this year. Each year an award is given to anoutstanding Senior vocal student. Its receiver was chosen not only on the basis of talent, but also the award depended upon the amount of time and effort the individual showed throughout four years of high school. This year the chorus award was given to Charlein Craney. BOTTOM ROW: P. Waltz, S. Nelson, P. Goetzinger, D, Wlaker, C. Craney, C. Shipley, C. Becwar, B. Hall, J. Beattie. The 1965 football team provided the fans with an exciting season. Although our team was small and in- experienced with only thirty boys out, they showed much enthusiasm and improvement under head coach J ack Jan- sen. Our record was three wins and five losses. The team chose Jerry Staskal as the captain and most valu- able player, Bill Kincannon as the most improved player, and Bill Gebhard for the defensive award. Bulldogs Bite Wowie, wowie! Junior, take my pulsel! A very spirited and successful Jr. High team was newly added to our athletic department. Under head coach Gene Larsen, the team had a record of three wins and two losses. This team showed excellent ability and proved to have success in years to come. Wait a minute Bill, I have to pull up my sockH Boy, this sure is the life!!! The 1965-1966 wrestling team has had many ups and downs this year. Although this years record was not as good as previous years, many weight classes had to be filled by less experienced wrestlers. This caused compe- tition of the scales by losing weight and even gaining weight to fill a position. The greatest demand was in the heavier weights, but the boys pulled through and developed a team for the 65-66 season. At the Boscobel tournament we had one wrestler with first place, Bill Gebhardt. Three boys received seconds. Other tournaments brought many of our wrestlers up to higher awards. This team was led by George Schwab throughout the season. Fons Enioy Hordwooc Manager Dean W: The 1965-66 basketball season was like a ride on a roller coaster with many ups and downs. The Bulldogs, coached by Mark Dilley, played better than their record shows. There were many close and exciting games. As the season went on, the Bulldogs showed greaterimprovement in floor playing and team playing. The best games were against Prairie du Chien and Dodgeville when the Bulldogs led both games all the way. But with a few tough breaks, the Dodgers won with a score of 58-49. The top scorer for the Bulldogs was Dave Molldrem. The boys played good ball and showed real team spirit throughout the season. Is it basketball, or some new dance?
