Later in the year she resigned to go to Washington, and Miss Mabe-Ile Taylor, the succeeding libraria.n, reorgan- ized the Club. Miss Mfilson, the present Librarian, is sponsoring the club this year. s The Library Club is open to all classes in Borger High School, but this year it is made up of juniors i and Seniors. The Club is not limited or intended only for those interested in professional librarianship, but for those who are interested in books, reading, and personal improvement as well, The ,first quarter was given to bringing the members into at working relationship with the library. Later, reviews of current books were given through cooperation with the Current Literature Section of the A. A. U. VV. I U I VERA ADAMS JEAN STAHL Second Year Winner, 1933 First Year Winner, 1939 The Vera Chapter fso named in honor oi Vera Atlatns, Zncl year winner in Latin Tournament in H9385 of the junior Classical League was organized in 1938. This Berger Chapter boasts of the second largest membership of the entire State of Texas. The Club was reorganized early in the year 1939 with Grace Adams elected Presidentg Vera Adams, Vice-presitlentg and Frances Watson, Secretary. Latin students, past or present, having a good scholastic recorcl and in good faith with Berger High School, nifty become members of this organizatitm by being initiated in a very impressive ceremony at which time they are entitled to receive their attractive C. L. pin and niernbership card. i The Vera Clhapter has two honorary members: Vera Atlams, who won hrst place in 2nd year Latin contest in 1938, and jean Stahl, who won first place in lst year Latin contest in 1939. ' October 25, 1939, the junior Classical League entertained all present and past Latin members with a tea. The Club will be host for the first time on April 6 to all-district Latin contestants entering the Latin '1'lOLl1'Il21IllQI1L. The guests will he entertained with a luncheon, tea, and banquet, which will be carried out in Roman pomp and style with all students' dressed in elahoratecosttxmes. The purpose of the junior Classical League is to teach students that Latin is not a tleacl language but lives in all the Romance languages of the world: to teach them a cleeper appreciation of the great cultural Roman civilizationg to show them that the Rontztn people, by their law, art, and literature, made great contributions to the entire world, antl, by their knowledge of Latin, to help to keep the lamp of learning aglow.
