Dedication When the 1974 yearbook staff met to decide this years Echoesl dedication, there were several people who came to mind who are deserving of this honor. But 1974 was a unique year for BHS and this is a unique dedication award. The yearbook staff sincerely hopes that this particular dedication may never be duplicated, for it is dedicated to the victims of the April 3rd tornado. Never before has the town of Borden faced such destruction, and while our school building itself was unharmed, BHS was still touched Closely by the tornado. The twister which disrupted our small community destroyed the homes of our principal, Mr. Wynn, our bus driver, Tommy Hurst, and several of our students. Others who lost their homes and businesses included relatives and friends of us all. Even those students whose homes were unharmed will never forget the hours of anxiety as they waited for word about friends in the devastated areas. We are grateful that only one death resulted from this disaster and that the number injured was small when compared to what might have been. As the event shall never be forgotten, neither should the Spirit of the Borden community. BHS became an emergency station manned by the Salvation Army and volunteers from the community. Spring vacation started two days early as students and teachers pitched in to help. After the initial shock, the victims were determined to get back to normal as quickly as possible. A barn was raised, fields were cleared, and houses were started. While our beautiful trees will never be the same in our lifetime, Borden is still llthe valley beautifulll because of the people who live here. For the victims courage in the face of their loss and for the townis peoplels efforts on their behalf, the 1974 yearbook is dedicated. Sue Everage read the dedication to the student body during Honors Day ceremonies.
