The braves, however, opened the season with four hard losses. including one to arch rival Pekin Eastern, but came back in the fifth game to defeat Marengo. After losing to Milltown, Borden defeated South Central before traveling to the first of two holiday tourneys. In the Washington County tourney, the Braves lost a hard-fought game to West Washington, but came back to avenge an earlier loss, defeating Pekin to claim third place in the tourney. The following week Borden traveled to the Henryville tourney to do battle with Henryville. With the starters in foul trouble, the Hornets overtook the Braves. The following night the Braves downed Lanesville for another third place. Foul trouble and poor foul shooting continued to plagu the Braves as they won only one more game before the sec- tional. Having been moved to the Salem sectional for the first time, Borden thrilled sectional-goers with their nip and tuck battle against West Washington. After falling behind by as much as nine points in the third quarter, Borden pulled even with the Senators in the fourth quarter. From there. it was anybody's game as the lead changed hands many times before the final buzzer. Shock registered on the faces of the Borden playeis and fans after a last second shot by West Washington ended their hopes for a sectional victory. During the hard-fought season. Mike Sizemore was cho- sen for the Washington County all-tourney team. and Rad Guinn was chosen for the all-sectional team at Salem.
