The Fighting Forty Marching Band participated in two marching contests this year for the first time, and placed Well in stiff competition. One ofthe mostthrilling experiences for the band was being invited to play for President Lyndon B. Johnson and his family k in Jeffersonville during the summer of 1966. The Borden Band was one of three bands present at ' this occasion. Music Festivals, such as the 8010- Ensemble Contest, were also attended by the band this year. The Borden music students brought home eight out of eleven firsts in the solo contest, and the rest were seconds. The three ensembles all received second places. The Band acquired new uniforms this year, and these were used at all the activities described above, and at the final concert of the year. The annual spring concert this year drew the largest audience ever, with Mr. Nick J. Koenigstein, Director of Bands at Eastern Kentucky University, as guest conductor. Other highlights 0f the year were sever- Mr. Barnes gets the attention of the band for a half-time a1 marching show at the Borden Basketball basketball show. games at which time the Fighting Forty was well received. ' Season .9, scores before skull session. This year's Borden High School Basketball Team played under a new name, the Braves. This name was chosen by the student body from the many different ones that were submitted. The Braves opened the season with a good game against Patriot, defeating them 70-63. The next time out, Borden won a real impressive D.M. A.C. game over Medora. Roland King, Don Farabee and Jay Norris joined forces to score 65 pts. Borden lost its next three games to Salem, North Central, and Milltown. On November 21 Borden played host to Pekin Eastern before a capacity crowd at the Silver Creek Jr. High gym. The Braves were hot this game as they opened up with a 18-9 first quarter lead; by half time they had in- creased the lead to 42-22. After a great first half, the Braves coasted to a 76-62 win for their third straight victory over Pekin. After beating Heltonville and losing to South Cen- tral, the Braves defeated a surprisingly strong Lanesville ball team 71-66. On December 20, the Braves traveled to New Washington hoping to defeat one of their newest arch-rivals. Although the Braves played a good game, they were still defeated by the strong New Washington team. The Braves went on to lose their next five games as Coach Reed started experimenting with some of the younger ball players. After this long losing streak, the Braves pulled a small upset over visiting Deputy, defeating them 55-49. This was the last game won by the Braves as they lost their last three regular season contests. The Braves were lucky in their draw in the Sectional, by drawing Georgetown. Although the Bearcats were rated over Borden, the Braves felt they had a good chance to pull an upset. But different was the case, as Georgetown won 85-57. Although the season wasn't as bright as was expected, there was one highlight of which we can all be proud. Don Farabee, a jun- ior, broke a new sectional record for the Braves by scoring 36 pts. in the Jeffersonville fieldhouse . ' . ' V .v. 5 mm 1 .7. N f. .ng 9.v..g, . For the third straight time Borden finished second. The Braves, however, made a strong showing and finished only 20 points behind Silver Creek. On April 27 Borden beat Pekin Eastern for another routine victory over them with a lop-sided score of 79-39. The Braves next traveled to Jeffersonville for the Clark County Meet with Don Farabee and Jim Green scoring the only points for Borden. The Dixie-Monon Athletic Conference meet was held at Brownstown. Despite the fact the B. H.S. Seniors were away on their class trip, the Braves finished fifth in the conference meet. High Balling is a selling trickwherebyacustomer is quoted an unrealistically highprice for his car in trade--1ater on, this price willbe subject to re-apprais- a1. When the car is re-appraised the dealerfinds some excuse for not honoring the original high offer. Low Balling means that a dealer deliberately quotes a ridiculously low, new car price to induce the customer to shop as much as he pleases because no other dealer will ever meet that Low ball price. After shopping around, the customer returns to the low ball artist and, of course, the dealer finds an excuse why he can't sell at the original figure quoted. These are just two Buyer Beware pitfalls practiced only by a minority of dealers. The next time you are ready to buy a new car, please accept our sin- cere invitation to deal at PRESTON FORD with men of integrity. Just honest, courteous presentations and the best possible service after the sale, by experienced factory trained personnel. 10th and Spring Street 83W Jeffersonville, Ind. 47130 RAY4S JEWELRY House of Diamonds Cut Diamonds Fine Watches E Side Square 225 Pearl Street Salem, Indiana New Albany, Indiana Phone: 883-2943 Phone: 945-6481 -':S'i::'..'. v-fswv WQ'Q'XYE. . . . . -- .
