The 1965-66 band has participated in many school functions, including pop concerts, half-time basketball shows, and seasonal concerts. A highlight of the band year was a concert given by the band at New Washington High School and Henryville High School. The band has grown in number and quality, and the repertoire of their musical selections has increased in quantity and versatility. Cross Country The Borden Cross-Country team, under the direc- tion of coach Jerry Reed, finished fifth in the 10 team Dixie-Monon Conference. Pat Dougherty set a new school, conference, and Henryville course record with a time of 10:18 for the two-mile run. Terry Smith was the winning pitcher as Roland King hit a home run for the victors. Orleans fell to the Johnson coached team by a 5-3 score. Russ Akers pitched the complete game for Borden. The Berries dropped their first Conference loss by a 4-1 margin to Tunnelton. tDon Farabee, Russ Akers, and Terry Smith shared pitching duties. Bor- den lost a close 6-4 decision to Henryville in a non- conference game. Fayetteville handed the Berries a resounding 16-3 defeat in the final game of the season. The Berries opened the season under Coach Jerry Reed by dropping a close 80-75 contest to Clearspring. Ter- ry Smith pumped in 38 points to lead the attack. Medora handed Borden its second defeat by a 72-64 margin despite 29 and 20 point performances by Terry Smith and Russ Iskers. The Berries gained their first Victory in a 95-51 romp over Patriot. Russ Akers set a new single-game record by scoring 41 points. Milltown scored a 65-58 win as Smith totaled 22 points. The rival game against Pekin was won in an over- time by the Reed five 66-63. Smith with 26 and Jay Norris with 17 led the Berries. Heltonville became the Berries' third Victim by a 61-47 count as Smith scored 28. South Central posted an 80-68 margin with Smith and Don Farabee scoring 23 and 20. The Berries evened their record with a narrow 50-48 victory over Lanesville. Smith tossed in 30 points in an 84-61 losing effort against New Washington. In the Borden Invitational Tourney, the Berries dropped a 69- 62 decision to Stendal before defeating Patriot 79-71 in the Consolation Came. Smith led all scorers with 60 points in the two games. Marengo won a low-scoring 52-41 game with Jay Norris leading the Berries with 16 points. Borden won a close 75-74 conference game over Crothersville as Smith scored 26 points. The opening defeat by Clearspring was avenged by a 77-66 win as Smith and Farabee scored 24 and 20. Henryville became the Berries' next victim by a 73-50 margin as Roland King and Smith each scored 20. The Berries defeated Heltonville for a second time with Smith and King scoring 29 and 18 points. Borden won their fifth straight with a record-breaking 102-73 win over Patriot. Smith, Farabee, King, Norris, and Akers each scored in double figures with Smith notching 32 counters. Fayetteville scored an easy 86-46 win over an injury-ridden Borden team with Jay Norris scoring 14 for the losers. Tunnelton scored a 55-52 victory as Smith scored 22, but the game was forfeited to Borden as Tunnelton used an ineligible player. The Berries closed out the season with a 12-8 record as they defeated Lanesville 67-55. Smith scored 20 to add to his record-breaking season total. Pat Dougherty was close behind in scoring with 65 points as he participated in the mile run, 880 yard run, 440 yard run, broad jump, and mile relay. Pat tied the school record and established a new Bor- den field record with a time of 4:46 in the mile run.
