Swim testi dives right in A new sporr was added to DH5 athletics. When the remodel- ing and construction was com- pleted in the summer of 1983, DHS boosted o fine, new swimm- ing pool. Ms. Jenny Oberhausen wos hired to teach the P.E. swim dosses ond also to coach both the boys' ond the girls' swim teams. The girls competed in the foil, ond the boys in the winter. The girls compiled o respec- table record of 4-9, o good showing, considering it wos the first year. Several of the team members did very well in the Sectionals and also qualified for Consolation Finals. The boys hod o record of 1-9, but their enthusiasm did not wane, and they set many per- sonal bests. They also did very well in the Sectionals, and several qualified for the Consola- tion Finals and Finals. Freshman Alicia Pryor rakes a break between evenrs or a home swim meet. Pioneers win sixth erown The lady Pioneers won rheir sixth Sectional crown since we began nine years ago. In the Regionals, they won 40-42 in overtime against North Posey, bur fell in the final gome with Bosse. Our overall record was 15-8. The Most Valuable Player Award for varsity went to Beth Winsert, and the reserve award went to Melinda Powers.
