1 CONTENTS SENIORS..........16-77 SPORTS...........78-H5 ACTIVITIES.....II6-I55 UNDERCLASS .... 156-199 FACULTY........200-213 CLASSIFIED.....214-224 As our four years at Boonton come to an end, the class of “82” looks back on cherished memories. TOGETHER we experienced many different emotions: pride, jubilation, disa-pointment, accomplishment: feelings that students and teachers alike will never forget! We started out our Freshmen year with a successful candy sale which made us one of the richest Freshmen classes ever. Our impressive “frosh” football team surprised everyone with the first winning season in four years. 4 Their record of 5-4 featured a victory over then undefeated Madison. We built new relationships, many of which were to last throughout our high school days. Slowly, a new feeling evolved in our class: TOGETHERNESS! By our Sophomore year we felt right at home in the now familiar halls of Boonton High. Our fund-raisers that year included the sales of stuffed animals and candy canes. These sales boosted our treasury even higher. It was during 1979 that the drinking age was raised to 19 — so close and yet so far! 1 f 5 the class of nineteen hundred- eighty two Our magazine sales total soared to $10,000 — another job well done! We sponsored the Junior Senior Prom at the Birchwood 1 Manor, which turned out to be an enjoyable evening. 11 We began our Senior year (naturally the best!) with style. Our “Senior couch”, which we Erovided to replace the missing ench, was ruled a fire hazard and we were kindly asked to remove it. On a slightly more serious note, our class was the first to endure four years of final exams. “Spirit Week” in October got a tremendous response from the student body. A great number participated in: Hat “T” Shirt Day, Punk 60’s Day, Army Navy Day, Warm-up Suit Day, and Rea Black Carnation Day. We spent our four years at Boonton TOGETHER, and it is TOGETHER that we will bid farewell to our high school at graduation. There were many shared experiences, and we will carry away many memories. Although we will never forget these past years, it is time to move ahead and greet the challenges our futures will hold. Good-bye BHS! 15 1982 CLASS OFFICERS: 18-19 ABATO-ANDICAN 18-19 AUMANN-BOHON 20-21 BOLAND-CASTELLANA 22-23 CASTELLANA-CRAIG 24-25 CREATURA-DEHNERT 28-29 DEL RUSSO-EBELING 30-31 EGGERT-GALLUCCI 32-33 GALUZZI-GRAHAM 34-35 GUARINIELLO-HERBERT 38-39 HERCEK-JOHNSEN 40-41 JOHNSON-KERLIN 42-43 KERR-KUFTA 44-45 LAHR-LEWIS 48-49 LIST-MELENKEVITZ 50-51 MEOLA-NEWBURY 52-53 NIBLICK-PARSONS 54-55 PATEL-PRASCHAN 58-59 RAFFERTY-ROWE 60-61 SABINA-SMITH 62-63 SMITH-THONER 64-65 TIMS-VOELKNER 68-69 WALDRON-WITTNER 70-71 WOYTOWICH-ZSARKO 72-73 CANDIDS 26-27 36-37 46-47 56-57 66-67 MEMORIAL PAGES 74-75 CLASS FAVORITES 76-77 ANDREA ZEIDEL Nickname: Anj Panj. Although their 1-8 record was not impressive, the team has acquired a great amount of recognition in school and the community. The first four games of the season were to then, undefeated teams. In each game Boonton was winning until the closing minutes. It was inevitable that Boonton would upset a major conference team. On Friday, November 13, Boonton finally achieved their goal: a WIN! And, what a win it was: 25-22 over the Rams of Randolph. The winning margin came via a 27 yard field goal with just over four minutes remaining in the game. The winning kick was the second three pointer for “Bubba” Krok during the season. Much excitement was aroused as the fans rushed out onto the field to congratulate the winning players. There is no way to convey the emo- 80 Victory Over Rams Caps ’81 Campaign tional level the football team reached in recording one of the most surprising upsets in recent memory. Outstanding offensive efforts were turned in by: Fred Kufta (tight-end), Dan Beltran (Center), John Koval (Guard), Tony Lasalandra and Bill Stitt (Tackles), Tom Zaher and Ray Roller (Running Backs) and Chad Capper and Ron DiGiocappo (Wide-receivers). The defense relied upon: Steve Watson (Guard), Bob Krok and Dave Issenger (Tackles), Paul Alleiri and Ray Roller (Ends), Steven Kerlin (Linebacker), Tom Madine (Corner-back) and Steve Onopa (Monsterback). Their next win was delayed until a 27-13 decision over Hanover Park near season’s end. Then the climax, a 7-6 victory eeked out over neighboring Parsippany. The defense was led by the Gregory brothers, John at nose-guard and Dan las line backer. The safety was Jeff Bosland. Quarterback Mike McHugh, receiver Jim Venturini and tight-end Michael Bevacqua were key personnel on the offense. The team was comprised of a majority of sophomores. Most played both varsity and JV football to gain the added experience. 84 Frosh Crush Parsippany What the “frosh football team lacked in size, they made up by giving one-hundred percent effort. They were a team that improved all season long. The effectiveness of their growth culiminated in the complete destruction of Parsippany in their final game with a 14-0 score. There was no one valuable player, because every member proved to be the best. 85 This year’s soccer season was a bit of a disappointment after last year’s winning season. The final record was 5-13-1. For the second year in a row the team qualified for the Morris Count ' Tournament. The defensive unit was led by seniors Mike Homeijer, who registered one hundred-fifty-nine saves and sweeper Andy Dock, who unbelievably led the team in goals and total points. They both were selected to the All-County Team. Mike was chosen Honorable Mention and Andy for the First Team. Seniors Scott Willis, Vincent Galucci and Mike Buckingham were the mainstay of the Bomber defense, juniors Steve Ough, Bob Anticoli and David Gentile also played very well. Sophomore John Ventrice, who played every position except goalie this year, was an intregal part of the 86 team. Senior Sean Fischer played consistently well throughout the season. Other halfbacks included Sergio Moraga, Jerry Ramiza and Phil DeGeorge. The front line was led by senior captain Chris White, who made All County All State Honorable Mention and the Citizen’s Dream Team. A summary of team scoring: Frank Bevaqua, two goals four assists; transfer Lars Hellston. one goal and Chris White, three goals and two assists. The varsity season looks promising next year due to the remarkable record of 11-7 posted by the JV squad. The team was led by sophomore goalie Tom Voelkner and juniors Ron Terebecke and George Saver. 1981 Season’s Record Boonton Opponent 0 Whippany Park 3 0 Morris Hills 4 1 Randolph 2 0 Caldwell 5 1 West Morris 0 2 Mountain 1 0 Mountain Lakes 4 3 Dover 1 3 Mt. Three girls qualified for the State Sectional Championships: Captain Connie Ward on floor and beam, Donna Amari on bars and beam and Leigh Anne Obenhuber qualified in all four events. Furthermore, Miss Obenhuber’s outstanding performance in the County Meet won her second place on bars, fourth on the vault, fourth all around and fifth on beam. Leigh Anne holds the school records in all events. This season she re-established records on beam with a score of 8.75 and in vaulting with an 8.9. The team record of 96.05 set last season still stands. Other dedicated members of the group include: junior Kris Westenberger, sophomores Karen Sameraro, Laura Porter, Terry Stager, Anna Bachetta and Sue Johnson and frosh Angela Retano. The team was members of two conferences, the North Jersey and Iron Hills Conferences wnich resulted in 5-7 and 4-5 records respectively. This record does not indicate the vast improvement the team has made under new head coach Cindy Beradino. Impressive shut-out victories over Mountain, 5-0 and Randolph, 2-0 were highlights of the season. This talented team also tied four of the top teams in the Iron Hills Conference: Randolph, Morris Hills, Mount Olive and West Morris. The offense was led by an aggressive Donna Reeves who scored nine goals and assisted on four others. Kim Roon followed in scoring with three goals and five assists. Sophomore Kacie White scored her first career goal and Angela Bonanni, her first assist. Seniors Kim Giganti and Sue Reynolds also contributed to the offense. An opening loss to an unexpectedly strong Randolph team took some of the spirit out of an inexperienced team. A second blow to the team’s morale was auto injuries to two of the top five runners, Roy Porter and Charles Ver Hoeve. The team ran their next few matches without much enthusiasm. Their final season's record of 4-5 was truly a learning experience. The lesson learned: “One cannot run on last year’s glory. The three seniors, co-captains Bob MacDonald and Chuch VerHoeve and Roy Porter will surely be missed. The hopes for next season falls on the shoulders of: Brian Boyer, Hector Martinez. Hadrian Alegarbes, Glen Middleton, Tim Nexon, Steve Forte, Ed Baldwin, Mike Davenport and Carmine Gianti. 94 (Left) Mac leads his share of runners in County Meet. With six returning players and many new hopefuls, the team looked forward to a successful season. Under the avid leadership of Coach Lindsay, the team conquered many obstacles which resulted in all night” tennis matches and getting lost in West Orange Mountain. Overall, the season was filled with fun and adventure. Senior members of the team were: Liz Heff, Captain Andrea Pfreundschuh and Karen Scerbo. Underclass players were: Juniors Norma Huebscher, Laura Murtha and Fran Venturini; Sophomores Patrice Fitzgerald and Pam Smith; and Freshmen Andrea Axt, Peggy Kelly, Naryan Solow and Allison Webber. Although the season was a losing one, the team displayed a great deal of integrity and team spirit. Next year’s girls tennis team should be stronger than ever with a returning line-up of underclassmen. 96 1981 Girls’ Tennis Team: Kneeling: L. Murtha. F. Venturini. A. Webber. N. Solow and A. Axt. The 12-10 record was only the second winning season in the past 10 years. Mr. Elko felt things could have been better had it not been for an ankle injury that sidelined cocaptain Doug Wittner and a leg injury to junior Tim Stickle. The Bombers did have four big wins this season against West Morris, Hanover Park and two wins over tough Mountain Lakes. Co-captains Doug Wittner; who averaged 16 points a game and Eric Wekilsky; averaging 12 points a game were the teams leading scorers. Both are being mentioned as potential All County Team selections. Other starters for the team were: Chad Capper (Senior), Mike Nowasiat (Junior) and Mike McHugh (Sophomore). This season’s Bombers upheld Boonton's tradition of court excellence, entering the second round State Tournament with a 19-6 record. Among their achievements were the championship of the tough Morristown Christmas Tournament, a second place finish in the conference, a 54-37 blowout of powerful West Morris and a record 76 points against Orange. The team as led by county scoring champion Debbie Boelkner (21 points per game) established or broke every single scoring record in books of girls’ basketball at Boonton. The senior captain also became Boonton's first 1000 point scorer, first player to be selected for the prestigious New Jersey North South All-Star Game at Rutgers, and set a Boonton single game high of 37 points. Senior Co-captain Donna Reeves provided leadership, hustle, determination and some spectacular shooting, while senior co-captain Sue Custer played excellent inside defense, led the team in rebounding and averaged 10 points per game. Rounding out the starting five were the working and persistant sophomore point guard, Laura Porter and the aggressive rebounding forward Lisa Bechtel. A strong core of substitutes were: junior Laura Murtha; who led the team in field goal percentage, sophomore guard Kim Procko; who provided speed and good defense, sophomore Patrice Fitzgerald; who came on strong late in the season and freshman guard Kim Drost who displayed the skills and attitude which promised success for the future. The Aussies proved to be a much stronger team beating the home team in a one sided contest 13-5. The Bombers regular season leading scorers were seniors: Pete Franchi, Mike O'Rourke, Bill Cassidy and Captain Jim Nowoswiat. The defensive squad also produced some outstanding players. Worthy of special individual recognition were: goalie Bob Polizzi, defensemen: Jim Reed, Anthony Kee and Dan Beltran. The Bombers were a very determined team. The stickmen produced over a hundred goals last season however, due to injuries and the loss of key personnel, the team’s season record was a very disappointing eight wins, seven losses. 106 Boonton 9 1981 Lacrosse Clark Opponent 5 7 Hunterton Central 2 9 West Morris 6 3 Pingry 7 2 Summit 8 7 Livingston 5 16 North Hunterton 2 8 Montville 5 5 Lawrenceville 14 13 Hanover Park 2 13 Clifton 4 6 Columbia 11 3 Montclair 9 5 Australia 13 13 Montclair 16 108 V. Hurdler Ken Jones also qualified for the State Meet in the 110 meter hurdles. Outstanding efforts were contributed by Frosh, 800 1500 meter man, Glen Middleton. The MVP honors went to two deserving seniors, Willie Cherry and Mike Norton. The girls’ varsity team closed its season with a 1-8 record. Although it was not a very impressive record, individual achievements far outweighed the season results. Angela Hudson, at the Randolph Relays, threw the discus 148'3 . This set a new meet record, school record and was at the time the fourth longest high school throw in the nation. Karen Scerbo, who also threw the shot put and discus, scored in both the county and state sectional meets as did teammate high jumper Krissy Westenberger. Her jump of 5'2 got medals in the county and sectional meet at Rutgers University. All in all both the boys and girls teams had a good year and are looking forward to the 1982 season. Ill ’81 Disappointment for Bombers The Varsity Baseball team for 1981 suffered a frustrating and disappointing season. The main problem was that they did not play good baseball. Despite efforts they couldn’t put it together as a team. Under the leadership of Captains, Jim McHugh and John Giardina, the team finished on a positive note. Mark Drugac, Ferdie Manlangit, Guenther Schlottman, and Larry Wallin were seniors that helped the team through its tough season. Returning lettermen this year were, Eric Wekilsky, Gerald Pinney, Gary Hanke, Mike Homeijer, and Mike Benesh. Pre-season reports indicated the team to have great potential. To reduce student apathy, the SRA worked to increase better communications with the student body and the student council. It also cooperated closely with the administration and the faculty. Creating school spirit was a big issue this year. The SRA offered many different activities to get the various groups of students involved. This year the SRA officers attended two state student council meetings. They were conducted at Rider College and Trenton State College. Our officers brought back valuable information and new ideas. These ideas were then discussed and then implemented into our student government program. Among the activities sponsored by the SRA were: a tailgate party, a bonfire, a trip to the day-care center dur-ing Christmas, a combined Homecoming with Parsippany and others. The 1981-1982 officers were: President: Keyth Kroboth, Vice- President: Steve Ough, Treasurer: Suzanne Olson, Corresponding Secretary: Dave Schwartz and Recording Secretary: Anna Bacchetta. 124 (Left) Treasurer: Suzanne Olson. On August 8th, a training session was held at Mr. Angilly’s house for all the juniors leaders and ten seniors. The games and activities demonstrated at this session prepared the leaders with solutions to problems that the incoming freshmen might have. The day before school began, the leaders gathered with the freshmen to follow a shortened schedule of their school day. The leaders were there to answer any questions about the school or to solve any problems that a new student might have. The leaders meet with the freshmen a few times during the course of the first and second marking period. On November 20th, Freshman Night was held. Due to the great amount of participation from the freshman class, it turned out to be a very successful evening. Freshman Orientation chairmen were Suzanne Olson and Alisa DePalo. 126 127 “KEYTH” QUEEN OF THE DAY! The Homecoming ceremony took place on November 7th. There were several changes in the traditional ceremony. These changes include a runner-up to accompany the Queen in case she is not able to crown next year’s winner. Also, there are now three candidates for each position whereas last year there were only two. Each candidate, as well as her family and friends, awaited the exciting outcome which Chairman Doreen Amari announced: The 1981 Homecoming Queen was Keyth Kroboth; the runner-up, Kathy Rafferty. Other members of the court included Junior member, Renee Koep-pel; Sophomore member, Kim Pro-cko; and Freshmen member, Maria DiGiacapo. The other finalists were the following: Seniors — Patti Doyle and Michelle Lazar; Juniors — Stephanie Jorgeson, Kim Delia and Norma Huebscher; Sophomore — Janet Bolcar and Jennifer Olson; and Freshmen — Michelle Fengya and Diane Dixon. The group labored toward two main shows this year, the annual Christmas Concert, held on December 21st and the yearly Prelude to Spring Concert presented on May 21st. During the past year, this choir also entertained audiences at Neil’s New Yorker and at Drew Chemical’s National Headquarters facility. Plans for an exchange concert were in the making at press time. The officers for the club included: President, )ohn Ofsonka; Vice-President, Cheryl Walz; Secretary, Stevelle Baydo and Treasurer, Stephanie Schoen. This was Mr. Paul Richley’s twenty-first year as director of the Choir. 130 131 132 Yearbook is a course in which students learn the basic skills of publication, layout, design, journalism and editing are just some of the areas covered. The annual Echoes is financed by boosters, ads, and yearbooks sold by the staff. Yearbook is under the direction of Mr. Gene Horton, without whom, the book would not have been completed on time. Thank You Mr. Horton! BAND As in past years, the Concert Band was a tremendous success. Under the direction of Mr. Joseph Szabo, the band pleased audiences with every performance. By the band playing their own renditions of Holiday favorites, the Prelude to Christmas Concert got everyone into the holiday spirit. The band traveled to Ontario, Canada for the annual exchange trip and concert. The trip turned out to be both educational and fun for the students. The Concert Band season was rounded off by an excellent performance at graduation. 133 FIRST TIMERS MAKE FAVORITE A HIT! The rumor that the drama club was finished was a depressing thought for all of the students involved. Theater has always been a big part of the school's activities. With determination from a group of students and the devotion of director Mr. Joseph Szabo, the drama club pulled off another great performance. Going against tradition with a non musical performance, the comedy M a S H was a tremendous success. As well as the director, 20 students out of a 35 member cast were first timers. As in the TV Show, the same crazy antics were pulled, but this time on stage. Even though the play was a comedy there was still room for some seriousness. The play contained all the old favorites including: Henry, Margaret, Hawkeye, Duke, Trapper, Frank, Father Mulcahey, Radar and others. As it turned out, M A S H was selected Favorite TV Show in the Class of '82 Favorite Poll conducted last fall. A timely selection wouldn’t you say? President Karl Onopa has a lot of help from vice-president Dan Beltran and secretary Fred Hurford. Hdkan Bjornson (Above) Pat Patterson (Mid-right) Charles VerHoeve (Right) 136 1 The Bowling Club conducts its meeting on Wednesdays at the Boonton Bowl. Their bowling competition is on an individual basis and also as teams. The highest single game bowled this season, a 226, was rolled by Patti Edwards. Patti also holds the high average at 162. The most exciting activity of the bowling club this year was their sponsorship of a Thon for the Leukemia Fund. The bowlers raised almost $1,000 for the New Jersey area organization. Mr. Korinda has been advisor for the group for a number of years. 137 BOWLING For eight years the Boonton Broadcasting Club has been piping its music, special announcements and programs through our halls. The club was started in 1974 and has been growing in size and popularity ever since. This year the club ran a Top of the Charts Contest to select the top twenty-five songs of the school year. Officers of the club were: Kevin Smith, Secretary; Karyn Mueller, Treasurer; Calia Brenscsens, Vice-President of Promotions; Bob Sanders. Vice-President of Programming and Greg Thoner, President. Mr. Richard Miller has been the club advisor since its inception. (Top Left) Karyn Mueller. (Top Right) Karl Onopa. (Above) Mike Wise and Mike Landolphi. 138 (Left) Steve Spinosa and Greg Thoner. This year's members were: Jason Comstock, Kurt Katzgrau, Jim Sens, Greg Thoner, Barry Bratner, Karl Rowe, Bill Latshaw and Jim Grish. The club advisor was Mr. Clarence Dewar. The Clothing Club promotes and encourages student interest in home economics in our school and community. Students work on their clothing construction projects at their meetings. The club had several memorable activities this year: a Parent Tea and Fashion Show in May and a modeling event which was part of the Concert Choir’s Spring Concert. Ruthann Vetere’s garment, a dress of her own design, was entered in the See'n’Sew Contest. She was one of the top fifteen in our region. The competition was among over nine hundred entries in the United States. The club officers were: President — Ruthann Vetere, Vice-President — Norma Huebscher, Secretary — Bonnie Lemmons, Publicity — Nancy Crompton and Activities — Wendy Slater. The club advisor is Mrs. Bird. 140 FRENCH CLUB This year the French Club held its annual French Christmas Party featuring French games and cuisine. Later in the year the club also dined at an elegant French Restaurant. For the second year. Mary Kate Rockis reigned as president and Amy Blain as vice-president. Other officers included: Treasurer — Fred Casale, Secretary — Leigh Ann Nicholson and Publicity manager — Liz Heff. The Club advisor was Mrs. Timms. WAMPUS The WAMPUS took on a new image this year. The paper was simplified in many respects, yet continued to be an activity of interest to journalism — oriented students. Because of its informal format all students were invited to submit material for publication. The paper is published comparatively inexpensive and is of no great financial burden to the school. SLEUTH has shown the most popularity among regular features of the publication. MEDIA MEMBERS Media Members is new on the list of school activities. In recent years it was known as “Library Aides. This year it has expanded its activities. Each member must spend a minimum of one period per week helping in the library processing new materials, books, magazines, filing catalogues and teaching students and faculty how to use the new Apple II Computer. The Media Members also take trips to other libraries to visit different Media centers in the area. They also conduct seminars on how to operate the various equipment in the library. This year's club officers are: President John Beebe, Vice-president Jon Horvath, Dues Monitor Scott Tooker. The club advisors are Mrs. Kanishcak and Mrs. Schindler. 141 HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society is composed of students who exhibit the qualities of service, character, scholarship and leadership. The group has continued to be a service organization in the Boonton school system. Its members have helped academically “needy” students in the junior high as well as the high school. Under the leadership of President Lynn Newbury, Vice President Kathy Rafferty, Secretary Scott Willis, and Treasurer Chris White, the N.H.S. has raised over twelve hundred dollars in scholarships through a carnation sale, donations from alumni, and other various sales. The new senior and junior members will be inducted and the scholarships will be presented in June at the annual banquet. The Humanitarian Club, under the supervision of Mr. Angilly, was very active this year. Kenny (ones led the club in the events throughout the year with the help of many other club members. The annual blood drive was held on March 16, which was a great success. The club also collected canned goods for needy families in the area. This year Ken [ones serves on the Board of Directors Morris Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Hadrian Alegarbes and Lisa Picciano serve along with Ken on the Chapters Youth Committee. This year the Humanitarian Club has been very helpful to our school and community. HUMANITARIAN CLUB 142 SPIRIT! In only its second year of existence, the spirit club has turned out to be one of our most successful clubs. The Spirit Club opened the 1981-1982 school year with its annual “Spirit Week.” New ideas for spirit days included a 60’s Punk Day and a Army Navy day. Club activities were not limited to one week in October. Special holiday and dress-up days were planned throughout the year. One of the main purposes of the spirit club is to encourage students to attend school sporting events. At one home football game the spirit club rented a helium balloon machine and gave out over 200 Red and Black balloons. Other events included a pre-game breakfast for the soccer team and a program sponsored by the Post Cereal Company to receive free athletic equipment. The club has come a long way in promoting school spirit. The club officers were: Co-Presidents Eileen Connerton and Liz Heff, Treasurer: Zehra Ahmedi and Publicity Manager: Terry Kenneweg. This is Club 4’s third year on the B.H.S. activities list and has done exceptionally well. Each year Club 4 sponsors fund raisers. The money from those fund raisers is used for such activities as educational trips to museums, Broadway plays, and dining in ethic restaurants. In the past Club 4 has been to see Evita, Dancin’ and Deathtrap. This year and in the future they would like to take on a charity. This years officers are: President — Kim Nolte; Vice President — Lisa Sorenson: Treasurer — Karl Onopa; Secretary — Calia Brenscons; Advisors — Mrs. Schindler and Miss Epstien. CLUB 4 143 NEW INDOOR HOCKEY HUGE SUCCESS! The Indoor Hockey Club is a new idea in intramural sports inspired by the love and enthusiasm of the game. This club was very popular and became an immediate success. Under the supervision of President Hadrian Algarbes and the Club’s advisor Mrs. Badalamenti, five squads were formed consisting of four boys teams and one all-girl team. The games were played on Wednesday nights at the John Hill gym. Competition was fast, furious and aggressive. As the games progressed, so did the players. Passing and team play improved with every game. They became very thrilling and exciting. More and more protective equipment was evident as the season progressed. A lot of credit must be given to the all-girl team who although did not have a winning record, gave it all they had against the boys. 145 BLACK BESTS COLORS The Indoor Soccer League increased in size with the inclusion of a faculty team which represented itself admirably in league play. This year the teams were divided into two conferences, North and South. 146 Northern teams included the Blacks, Alpiners, Red Rudabeggers and the Yellow Porkers. The South conference consisted of the Blue Magoos, Cultured Pearl Diggers, the Moatmen and the Orange Stallions. Indoor soccer action was fast and furious as teams attempted to achieve domination in their respective conferences. In the end, two teams remained to face each other in the most memorable and exciting championship in Indoor Soccer History. The Blues, representing the South and the Blacks, representing the North met in the finals. Down by three goals with precious few minutes left to play, Andy Dock led a Black charge that put the game into overtime, and eventually an 8-4 victory over the Blues. Congratulations to all involved for making the club such a success. The club officers were: President Vin-ny Gallucci, Vice-president — Chris White, Secretary — Scott Willis and Treasurer — John Ventrice. 147 WINTER CHEERING SQUADS Boys Basketball Captain: Connie Ward Boys Basketball Cheerleaders: (Left to Right) L. Through this program students can find out if they are really interested in a business career; and if so, exactly what type of work is of the greatest interest to them. In the related class, it is possible to acquire the specialized skill and information that is necessary to be successful in the office in which a student is placed. This makes it possible to advance to higher levels of employment sooner. It is also possible for students to learn to operate office equipment on the job that is not available at the high school. Some of the positions held by student trainees are: secretary, stenographer, bookkeeper, data processing clerk, bank teller, filing clerk, proof machine operator, switchboard operator, mail clerk, typist, clerk typist and general clerk. After graduation, the majority of the program's students become fulltime employees of the firms that helped train them. Some keep their part-time positions and attend business colleges. The program has been up-dated this year with the acquisition of two new visual computerized printer-typewriter consoles. 152 Distributive Education is a program for the students that offers studies to prepare the individual in their chosen careers. Mr. Prentice has been the club advisor for many years. Kathy List (President] and Janet Lau (Treasurer) have worked hard to make this program of studies successful. DE is held during the first three periods of the day. The students are placed in DE by their guidance counselors. These job duties, plus 15 credits make up the students school load. Many of the students work at local places. Some jobs require many miles of travel. Many of the student’s jobs include sales or service help. This year the DE class has raised $500.00 from their annual candy sale. The money collected from the sale was used to defray the costs of the Employer Employee Breakfast. This is held in honor of all employers. 153 Kermit Overpowers Under the leadership of overall captains Barbara Spender, Patti Yelpo and Co-Captain Kathy Rafferty the BLACK team regained their superiority with a great performance of “The Rainbow Connection. Excellent character performances were given by Kathy Rafferty (Kermit), Hilary Hynes (Fozzie Bear), Kim Barclay (Miss Piggy) and Kenny Boston and Dennis Charney (Statler and Waldorf). As frogs in the swamp, tumbling and apparatus started the show with a bang. Moving right along to a bar tap, as the “Dancing Cabarets” entertained Fozzie and Kermit. This is where Kermy and Piggy knew it was love at first sight. Kermit’s search for Miss Piggy took him through the tough Real World. Calisthenics as workmen and Modern as a storm showed Kermit that the swamp was where he belonged. Back in the Swamp, Kermit found his Piggy once again and they were wed with an array of multi-color flags. Best overall performance was a tie this year between Apparatus and Tumbling (Captains: Diane Paul, Doreen Amari, Karen Olson and Loreen Hoppe) and Modern (Captain Nancy Stewart and Stephanie DePalo). The annual spring Group Sporting Event first was conducted in 1972. 154 the Power of Oz The Red Team’s overall captains Kathi Osbun and Lucia Monteleone, along with co-captain Maria Tam-burri, skipped their way down the Yellow Brick Road to see “The Wizard of Oz. Excellent character performances were given by Lisa Castellana (Dorothy). Renee Koeppel (Glenda), Peggy Osbahr (Wicked Teacher), Kathi Osbun (Scarecrow), Sharon Ferraro (Tinman) and Lucia Monteleone (Cowardly Lion). Tumbling and apparatus skipped their way onto the scene as “Freshmen in Freshman Land. Fur- ther on down the road Dorothy met up with the Tapping Tinman. Dorothy was soon captured by the flying Monkeys and taken to the witches castle where she was guarded by the surprise “Flashlight” event. After escaping, Dorothy and Friends finally reached the beautiful Emerald City (Modern), where Oz granted them their wishes. The surprise event was voted Best Overall under captains Diane Amodei and Debbie Rensa. Red still retains the over-all record with a narrow margin of six to five. 155 fEACHERS to lO 158 C. As the years grew fewer, the bonds grew stronger, which on graduation day we found that leaving these wonderful people was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do. You don’t often find teachers putting on a show like the Faculty Revue. Many teachers participated in the antics. The money raised from the show went to the graduating stu- dent who, the faculty' thought could use the money for furthering his or her education or in pursuing a career. We have gained the trust, respect just a “whole lotta love” for the people some just call teachers. People we know and people we knew, Growing together then drifting apart, Always and ending and now a new start. At graduation we all grow nearer And all of our friends seem so much dearer. And as we say our final goodbye, One last brace and one more cry, A Keep in touch” and a “Promise I Will A “Remember when” but, better still, A place in my heart, you'll always stay, This is what's said as we go our own way.
