I 2 3 4 Jim Grady preparing to throw a pass. The 1965 season brought the gridiron men of B.H.S. into a new circle of foes in the Jersey Hills Conference. Although the team had the talent and experience to shape a winning season they were plagued by a number of injuries to key players and at inopportune times. The action began at West Orange Mountain when the Bombers dropped a 13-0 decision. Both co-captain Bob Vreeland and half-back Walt Whitehead received injuries, in this game which bothered them for the remainder of the season. The next week Boonton bounced back with a 20-6 win over non-conference foe Verona. Fullback Jim Felice and end Jim Grady both scored their only TD's of the year in this game. In their first home game of the season Boonton lost to Liv mgston 12-6. Next came a contest at Hanover Park and the Hornets stung the Bombers for a 32-0 loss. Back home again against West Es sex the gridders of Boonton could only notch one touchdown as Wessex took it 25-6. Boonton fans received a real thrill when Sam LoManto returned a kick-off 92 yards for a touchdown against Morristown, with a mere 48 seconds remaining in the game. The Morristown game which marked the only conference victory (20-13) was followed by a 14-14 tie with Parsippany. The deadlock was the first in four years at Boonton and also ended the home season. On the road again the Bombers found their injuries hurting more as they lost the services of co-captain Chuch Helmstetter for the rest of the season. A 37 7 thrashing by conference champ Morris Hills was the result and on Turkey Day Wayne ended it with a 34-0 rout. Varsity Football Captains Chuch Helmstetter and Bob Vreeland. The team, lead by Co-captains Harold Reese and Rich Christie, went on to tie the three best teams in the county. The soccer team’s first goal was scored by Howie Schulien. while John Jeniec led the team in total points scored. Although the team encountered a very severe losing streak, it managed to rally the last game and beat Morris Knolls by a score of 2-1. Richard Christie attempting to block against Morris Knolls. Tom Makosky. Don Korinda. Tom Condon. Al Langen. and Richard Curd. The squad had a successful season, winning ten games and losing four; they came in fifth in the Jersey Hills Conference, fifth in Morris County and fourteenth in the state of New Jersey. Instead, the spirited cagers witnessed a final score of six victories and thirteen defeats. Richard Christie lead the team in points with 11.5 and Harold Reese was second with 11.1. Richard also lead the team in foul shooting by scoring sixty-five per cent. Although the season was not as successful as they had anticipated, the team and Coach Rizk displayed the spirit and enthusiasm of true sportsmen. J.V. Team J.V. Basketball: ROW 1: Coach Schlen-ger. This year's J.V. wrestling squad had an 11-3 record; the team, consisting of about 50 men. will become a varsity sport next year. Benny Lado, Howie Schulien, and Jim Waradzyn were the three undefeated members of the team this year. Goober Waradzyn was named Wrestler of the Year 1965 1966 for the pinning of all his opponents. With their previously established record of victories and sportsmanship, the wrestling team will continue in their enthusiastic competition in the Jersey Hills Conference. Pin him? Yes!
