Curtis Parsons College The efforts of the Social Studies Department reach over thirteen hundred students through a curriculum consisting of World History, World Geography, Early European History, Modern European History, Citizenship, and U.S. History. The Social Studies Department, under the supervision of Mr. John Ryder, is concerned with two major and on-going tasks: first, the study of man, both in history and in the contemporary scene; and second, the training of our youth in more responsible and intelligent citizenship. Over two-thirds of our students not only learn to read and to understand a foreign language but are also prepared for the practical application of everyday conversation. The Romantic languages of French, Spanish, and Latin, along with the Germanic languages of Russian and German, form the curriculum of this department. Laboratory facilities such as professionally-cut tapes and records are used throughout the year. In addition, students have become acquainted with the cultures of the countries where these languages are spoken. 24
