Bill Guida and Steve Avallone were awarded honorable mentions to give the Boonton eleven good representation in the county. The starting eleven was one of the best in the county. With Ken McCaffrey ond Steve Avallone at ends, Tony La Salandra and Butch Drugac at tackles. Bob Polyak and Russ Jayne at guards and Carl Pauli and Frank Delaney alternating at center, the Bomber line was a nightmare to the quarterback. The backfield also performed notably. Bill Guida, as quarterback, called the plays that kept Boonton moving ahead. Ronnie Venturini and Bill Applegate at halves and Craig Van Duyne at fullback made a trio hard to contend with. Promising reserves such as Ken McDougall and Art Olsen at ends and Harry Van Kouteren, Bill Beltran, Bob Mariani and Tom Shaw in the center of the forward wall made it extra strong. The fine performance by reserve backs, Jim Bolcar, Jack Steinhauser, Leigh Gorman, and Tony Scozzafava allowed Guida, Venturini, and Applegate to rest for periods in the games. Despite the usual hardships and injuries ond even his own illness. Coach Shriner, with the aid of his fine assistants Ron Vitaletti and Al Gifford, earned much credit and admiration for helping the team to experience a winning 1953-1954 season. Dean Gallo tackles Passaic Valley player. Frank Delaney blocks ball carrier while Steve Avallone does some fancy footwork. 19
