Joan Schroe-der and Jack Wootton. Kent Van Duyne was the lucky winner of the radio, his name having been drawn from the box by Stet Richmond, junior class president. The seniors made a profit of approximately 450 and the Juniors made $425. As a result, the classes will have enough money to carry them successfully through the year. STUDENT COUNCIL Being the largest organization in the Students Regalian Association needs an executive committee in charge of students activities, funds, and laws. The Student Council acts as this executive committee, and very efficiently carries out these activities under the supervision of its industrious officers and able adviser, Ur. Cap-linger. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Outstanding leadership, scholarship, character, and service are the qualifications necessary to be elected to the N.H.S. This nation-wide organization picks the top of the Junior and Senior classes for membership. Their annual activities are the Faculty Tea given in the fall, and a formal banquet held in spring when the new members are initiated. The faculty adviser is Miss Mara-ziti and the President, Bob O'Grady. STUDENT COURT The Student Court includes one Chief Justice, two judges, and a secretary. The duty of this organization is to hold trial and inflict punishment on any violators of school regulations who have been issued a summons by a Service Club member. The Judges are appointed by the Student Council and approved by the principal. « SERVICE CLUB As the Traffic Cops of B.H.S., the Service Club attempts to maintain law and order in and around the school. Violators of school laws are issued summonses by members, and then appear before the Student Court. Students of high scholastic standing and leadership are selected by the faculty and members of the club, and are confirmed by the Senior officers and faculty adviser, Mr. Rutt. 69 LIBRARY CLUB ATTENDANCE OFFICE Late againl To the attendance office staff this is nothing new. Their job is to record the daily attendance of each pupil and account for his whereabouts. Many's the time they've had writers' cramp from issuing late slips; and woe unto those who get caught cutting. This efficient group includes: Louise Scerbo, Nancy Hitchner, Barbara Clews, Charlotte Meyer, Babette Zcnns, and Jacqueline Spiegel. A well organized and pleasant library is an asset to any school. Mrs. Johnson and her assistants have made ours so. Whether to gain information or relax with a good book, you will always find the library efficiently run. Because of the staff's interest, ours is an extensive and well organized library; one to be proud of. SENIOR USHERS These are the faithful fellows and girls who serve you at all the school functions. Chosen on the basis of poise, personal appearance, and ability to carry out their job cheerfully, this group can always be counted on for efficiency. The able captains are Joan Lennon and Freddie Potoczak. GUIDANCE OFFICE A helping hand and a kind word are always welcomed by any new-comer. Miss Price and her guidance office have given this help both to new students and those who need advice pertaining to school activities. They are particularly helpful to the Seniors who plan ahead for future jobs and education, while to students still in school they arrange schedules to fit individual needs and interests. 70 FRENCH CLUB From the gay land of Paree come the romantique people and customs which draw the attention of this club. Among their activities during the year is their annual trip to New York where they attend a Parisian movie and enjoy a genuine French meal. Mrs. Backus is certainly a capable adviser for this club. GERMAN CLUB Sprechen Sie Deutsch This active club enjoys furthering their knowledge of the customs and characteristics of the German people. In keeping with the spirit of Christmas they sing German carols which they have learned at their meetings. Another major activity is learning folk dances of this country. The faculty adviser is Miss Pavidis. SPANISH CLUB For the several years that this club has been in existence, it has been increasing the knowledge of Spanish speaking peoples' interest and customs. This year the club, officiated by President. Pat Brown, enjoyed a Spanish meal prepared by themselves, as well as a trip to New York. Their faculty adviser is Miss J. Bogdzie-wicz. LATIN CLUB Under the able direction of Miss Gross, the Latin Club strives to create a better understanding of ancient Roman culture and background. With an interest in Latin, the members recreate the atmosphere of the ancient world of Rome and its environment. 71 SOUND SQUAD STAGE COMMITTEE t'nder the direction of Mr. Moran, the stage committee deserves much credit and thanks for the co-operation and readiness to be on hand whenever there is a job to be done. Whether they construct scenery for plays, build, or paint stage sets, they can always be found contributing their services. Service with a smile could easily be the adopted motto of this group. Its members are always on hand to run the movie projector, phonograph, and to supply the service of the public speaking system. Under the supervision of Mr. Wittnan, manager Jimmy Handzel, and assistant manager Douglas Lutz, the beys accomplish their jobs efficiently and courteously. SCIENCE CLUB Under the leadership of Mrs. Reed, the Science Club has made itself one of the most interesting organizations in the school. The members not only further their knowledge of science, but include a trip to Hayden Planetarium. The competent officers are: President, John Serenoj Vice President, Mary Deffigos; Treasurer and Secretary, Adelle Goodman. SCOREBOARD The knowledge of signals and accuracy of timing are qualifications needed to belong to the scoreboard group. Our reliable beys may be found on the football field doing an excellent job no matter what the weather may be. The faculty adviser is Mr. Rutt, with his squad consisting of: George Ball, Jimmy Handzel, John Sereno, and George Irving. 72 DEBATING CLUB Out of the mouths of babes oft'- times come gems .........To our debating club, we owe thanks for their fine showing in competition with other schools. This club has stimulated interest in political and social problems, and has also increased the students' skill in public speaking. Mrs. Irwin, their adviser, has helped them plan many entei -taining assembly programs. OPERA GUILD ART SERVICE CLUB The neatly kept bulletin boards and interesting show case displays are part of the accomplishments of this group. To serve you in every artistic way is their main purpose. At Christmas time they offer a challenge and opportunity for the homerooms to win the annual decoration trophy. Mrs. Markell is this year's welcome new adviser. The Metropolitan Junior Opera Guild studies the background and music of the great operas. In the spring, trips to New York are taken to see those which are most popular. This interesting club is composed of boys and girls who enjoy the great music of all operas and the lives of the composers. FASHION CLUB To inspire the girls to become more clothes conscious, poised, and well-groomed, is the main purpose of this outstanding organization. The members of the Fashion Club are kept busy with programs on good grooming, posture, etiquette, and speech. Frequent visits by professional models stimulate the girls' interest in this field of work. Miss Edmonds is their adviser. 73 MODEL AIRPLANE CLUB m RAILROAD CLUB This is one of our newest and most unusual clubs for students who are interested in railroading. Data is acquired through research, and first-hand information is obtained by several field trips that are taken to major railroads throughout the year. This organization is creditably advised by Mr. Lasenko. STAMP CLUB The members of the stamp club, under the Erection of Mr. Korinda, further the: i extensive knowledge and collection of stamps through their interesting activities. Its objective is to collect, exchange, and discuss all stamps, both foreign and American. The members learn about stamps in general, and extend their knowledge of foreign countries through discussions and research. Off they go into the wild blue yonder. The members of this fascinating new club meet each week to design and make their own model airplanes. Competition air meets are held each year as a challenge to these young pilots. Through the competent supervision of Mr. Lasenko, this club is growing in attendance and in popularity. INTRAMURAL SPORTS COUNCIL Having one of the largest memberships of any sports organization in our school, this council plans and supervises all activities of our intramural sports program. Some of these include: foot- ball, basketball, bowling, track, wrestling, and tumbling. This council is composed of 1 2 student managers; one boy and one girl from each homeroom, and a staff of faculty advisers. 7h - ve uutmt juL TPIII EDIE MARGIE 76 WHICH YYF FXCE! Coach Shriner's legs went out from under him as the jubilant players hoisted him to their shoulders. The goal posts crumbled and toppled to the ground while delirious Boonton rooters stormed onto the field. Out of the snow and bitter cold Thanksgiving air came the sweetest Boonton victory in recent years as the Bombers concluded a disappointing season with a 12-6 upset over highly favored Butler. With only one win and a tie to show in eight previous contests, the Bombers called on undying spirit and immovable determination to satisfy the loyal Boonton adherents. Terrible luck plagued the Bombers as they dropped their first five decisions of the year. Pompton Lakes, which went on to take the Lakeland Conference championship, rocked the confident Bombers 26-6. Roxbury was next, edging the Bombers 13-6 in a rugged and hard fought battle. Rockaway, led by Big Andy George, crushed Boonton's hopes of snapping out of its current tailspin in a humiliating 32-0 rout. Tough breaks proved the Bombers' downfall as Madison's second half rally netted a 20-6 victory. 78 Passaic Valley was very fortunate to eke out a 19-12 win over the hopped up Bombers at Little Falls the following Saturday. Boonton pushed the Hornets all over their home field before bowing to a pair of fumbles and an intercepted pass that Valley converted into three tallies. Boonton spirit hit its seasonal high as the Bombers buried oft-beaten Mountain Lakes 26-6 and deadlocked a confident Hawthorne eleven 6-6 on successive Saturdays. Everything went haywire for the Bombers against Dover and they walked away with a bl-6 verdict. Yet, the Bcmbers, led by Al Kuser, Tan Charette, and Lou Bonos, refused to quit, and compensated for previous losses with the titanic effort against arch-rival Butler in the traditional Turkey Day clash. Bonos, Charette, and Kuser gathered further laurels by gamering first team berths on the Lakeland Conference All Star Team, which also honored end Bob MacDonald and guard Pug Shriner with second squad nominations. The Wampus named Charette,Kuser, and halfback Bob McKean as the Linemen and Back of the Year , and also singled out Bonos, Dick Kersey, and Jooch Gorman for standout play. This year's edition of the Boonton High basketball team had to settle for a tie for Lakeland honors with a 7-1 record. The Bombers copped the post-season jamboree, but the anxiously awaited meeting with Pompton Lakes didn't come off because the Cards stumbled against oft-beaten Passaic Valley in the opening round. Pour of the five losses incurred while the Bombers were compiling a neat Ik-B record were in heart-breaking thrillers where the breaks went the wrong way. The Bombers bounced back from tough setbacks against Pompton Lakes and Paterson Tech, and turned in their greatest game in plastering the Cardinals 63—U8 to take over first place in the Conference. Gorman, Van Duyne, Kersey Co. proved to be the class of the conference and the county. Boonton's success hinged on the fact that no one man handled the Bomber offense. If one of the big three point producers had an off night, the others would pick up the slack, with occasional point spurts by ball handlers Glennon and Bentley helping immensely. Lanky Paul Dodd gave Coach Potter a chance to substitute for his big men without losing too much height or ability. Basketball, football, softball, bowling, wrestling, and tumbling were offered to all students, and the program achieved tremendous success, especially in the wrestling, tumbling, and bowling aspects. Boonton's tumbling squad, under Mr. Perryman's able direction, gave a pair of demonstrations in the school auditorium, and exhibited several difficult gymnastics. The wrestling team met Montclair Academy in a home and home series, and, considering that this sport is just starting at B.H.S., the team fared exceptionally well. Bowling, with Mr. Korinda as the adviser, was held every Tuesday at the Elks Club, and attracted an average of about 2$ students. Competitive activities of the progran included an inten-class track meet, a foul shooting tourney, a girls-teachers basketball game, and a football skills contest. Basketball leagues were conducted by homerooms, and softball competition was held between student—organized squads. Efforts were made at introducing golf, tennis, and horseshoes with moderate success. The scope of Mr. Berryman's program widened considerably, and achieved its purpose of presenting a chance to everyone to engage in wholesome athletic competition——not just those capable of making varsity squads. 81x 8$ 3oonton High's Bombers completed one of the most successful track seasons of recent years. Outstanding for Boonton in the eighteen meets, were Captain Dick Gardner over the 880 route, and Carl Slick Schleicher at the quarter mile. Bob Perlett, Bill Bowden, and Woody Parker handled the sprints capably, while Andre Meade and Carl Arrigo ran the hurdles. Mert Thompson competed in the 880 and the mile run, and Marty Dolowitz, A1 Romine, and Frank Barton led the Red and Black in the field events. The perseverance of Coach Meryweather, and the squad's willingness to work, were the main factors in raising track's position in Boonton sports. Enthusiastic girls in this organization first participated in badminton, tumbling, basketball, bowling, and volley ball. With the advent of spring, soccer, archery, and softball came into their own. These were thoroughly enjoyed by all. In its entirety, the Girls' Athletic Organization was very worthwhile, and provided fun for all participating.
