However, early season injuries hampered the squad, and the Bombers were never at full strength after the Pompton clash. As a result, Boonton ended up with a record of three wins, four losses, and two ties. The Boonton Shrinermon displayed their finest form of the season when they encountered Pompton Lakes and held the Cardinals to a scoreless deadlock. Fumbles on Pompton's doorstep cost the Bombers a probable victory. In an arc-light contest on the following Saturday, Boonton edged Roxbury by a 12-7 count; Bill Hovey accounted for the opening touchdown with a beautiful 66 yard run straight down the middle, but it was Joe Mehalick's last minute touchdown that clinched the game, so enabling the Bombers to register their first victory of the campaign. The Boonton Eleven then went into a severe tailspin and dropped three successive games, two of which were lost on the road to Rockaway and Madison by 18-6 and 26-13 scores respectively. The Passaic Valley Hornets shut out Boonton while rolling up 19 big markers. A winless Mountain Lakes crew visited Boonton and was routed, 26-0. The Bombers then squeezed past Hawthorne to record their second straight victory by the score of 19-12. In the traditional meeting between Dover High and Boonton, the latter suffered the humility of being trampled to the tune of Ul-lU. The annual Turkey Day game was witnessed by the largest gathering of the season. With the Bombers trailing 6-0 at the two minute mark, Charley Scully tossed Joe Mehalick a forward from the 30 yard line. Big Joe gathered it in at the 20 and raced the remaining distance, tying the score at 6-all. John Bolcar and Joe Mehalick were awarded turkeys for their meritorious performances in this contest. This game narked the close of another chapter in the history of Booiv-ton's football squad, and with it also go twelve senior gridmen who will never don another Bomber uniform again. They are: John Bolcar, Bill Carlyon, Pete D'Agostino, Les Devite, Don DiBello, Gerry Falduto, George Frenzel, Walt Koehler, Joe Mehalick, Jack Moseley, Tom Westenberger, and Gil White. 79 BASKETBALL SEASON RECORD WE THEY 39 .... 52 .... ::: 11 37 .... 59 •••• ::: $ 53 •••• 56 .... 36 .... so 53 .... . ri .... 14 .... ... qU 8 .... ::: s 68 ....
