BIVENS, Principal To the members of the staff, pupils, and teachers who have shared in the project of publishing this yearbook. I wish to congratulate you for completing such an excellent summary of our school activities. For the past six years many of you have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of learning experiences. The purpose of education in the Boons-boro High School may be summarized as follows: a. To prepare the individual to make a living and to make progress in his vocation, or to help in that process. b. To prepare the individual for mature and complete living — personal and family, social and civic — in today’s world: and to help develop the moral, ethical, and spiritual values which benefit both the individual and society. c. To increase man's understanding of the arts, sciences, and humanities, and his appreciation of his cultural heritage. Each day in your associations with classmates and teachers, you have seen and demonstrated by example the importance of Scholarship, Sportsmanship, and Service, which are the essential guideposts to the development of good citizens. 1 sincerely hope that our school has been able to meet most of your individual needs, and that because of your educational training received at B.H.S. you are fully prepared to meet the challenge of the future. The faculty, at all times, stands ready to render you any help or assistance you may desire. 2 FACUL AND STUDENTS A 3 FACLLTy Alfred C. Alcorn Joseph R. Arnold Florence A. Baker Helen N. Hard work and cooperation among the staff members and faculty is responsible for the splendid finished product. STAR STAFF — “Star Dust” The Star is the school paper of B.H.S.; but to those who have worked on it, the Star means much more; giving out assignments, worrying about meeting deadlines, proofreading, and making ends meet. 43 CHEERLEADERS — “The Bunny Hep” The cheerleaders' work can be appreciated by all persons who attend the games because they stand by, cheering through defeat as well as victory. Id eas become reality when they are enacted in clever formations by the girls. PATROL — “Dragnet” The patrol has rightfully earned the reputation of being one of the most helpful organizations of the school. Junior and senior high school students are equally represented on this safety team. 44 STUDENT COUNCIL — “Dear John” The purpose of the Student Council is to provide a means by which students can discuss problems and policies relating to student welfare and school organizations. BAND — “The Band Played On” The B.H.S. Band has continued to grow in quality and number since it was organized in 1940. The band participates in parades, assemblies, and the commencement exercises. 45 VISUAL AIDS — “Looking through Rose-Colored Glasses” This committee performs a service to all the teachers by informing them about films that are available, ordering the films, and assigning trained boys to show them to the classes. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA — “The Alphabet Song” We are very proud of our F.T.A. Club which is one of the largest in Maryland. It was organized in 1951 for the purpose of enabling students to have a better appreciation of the teaching profession. 46 SENIOR FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA — “If I Knew You Were Ccming, I’d Have Baked A Cake” The Senior F.H.A. of the school have a first-hand chance to prepare for their chosen occupations. Practical experience is maintained by working in the home management house. JUNIOR FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA — “Shoo-Fly Pie” The Junior F.H.A. are educated for the management of a home and family. They learn the principles of homemaking so that they can immediately put them into practice when they become members of the Senior F.H.A. Club. 47 SENIOR FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA — “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” The F.F.A. Club trains students who wish to prepare for work in the broad field of agriculture. By working on the school farm the boys are able to put their knowledge to practice. JUNIOR FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA — “No One Here But Us Chickens” This is an organization composed of junior high school students interested in learning better methods of farming. Learning to do; doing to learn; learning to live; living to serve. 48 SENIOR GLEE CLUB — “There’s Music in the Air” We can point with pride to the Senior Glee Club, an organization that has contributed well to the musical culture of its members. Without it, we would find something vital missing from our school program. JUNIOR GLEE CLUB — “Music, Music, Music” Besides serving as a means of furthering its members’ musical knowledge, the Junior Glee Club also furnishes music that is enjoyed by all in assemblies and school projects. 49 GIRLS’ SEXTET — “With A Song In My Heart” The Girls’ Sextet, another organization of musical note ,is closely related to the Glee Club. The girls’ lovely voices, blending harmoniously, have a profound effect on all who listen. BOYS’ OCTET — “Wanted” This outstanding singing group is composed of selected voices from the senior high school. Projects of the Boys' Octet include assemblies and outside engagements. 50 BOYS’ BASKETBALL — “The Victory March” Basketball has always been a big attraction at B.H.S. This season the boys made a good showing; but always, win or lose, they have won the distinction of being good sports. BOYS’ SOCCER — “I Get a Kick Out of You” The soccer team fought hard the entire way through the season and gave the crowds plenty of thrills and excitement. This was one that the boys can look back on with satisfaction. 51 GIRLS’ FIELDBALL — “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” This year's squad was composed of many new girls who promise good results next year Much credit must be given our team because, It matters not that you won or lost, but how you played the game. GIRLS’ BASKETBALL — “On to Victory” If success can be measured by the development of sportsmanship and cooperation, the girls' basketball team feels that it has been a big success. 52 53 st H FACULTY SPONSORS Alfred P.
