Glass ptofalaecxl Upon our arrival in the U.S,A. after twenty years in the South African jungle, we boarded an American airliner for the Tri-City Airport. Much to our surprise we found Bill Fowler piloting the plane. As we relaxed in our seats, we noticeda very flirtatious young man, whom we found to be Joe Fann trying to make love, rather unsuccessfully, to the attractive stewardess, Dor- othy Carter. When we arrived at our destination we took a taxi to Johnson City with a most capable driver, Carl White. He took us straight to the newly-built Bed Bug Inn under the management of Lee Light. After taking a shower, we de- cided to visit some of the old familiar communities near by. As we neared Princeton, we noticed a tall tower under construction. We decided to investigate, and as we might have guessed the owner was Robert Winkle. He told us he was now building his own station, K.O.R.N.Y. We chatted a while with Robert and then went in the direction of Austin Springs. Nearing this familiar old community, we heard a terrific noise. After round- ing the bend we saw what the commotion was all about - Ray Debter was throw- ing Harold Harwood out of his privately owned Spat and Scratch pool room. We nextvisited the Boone Lake where we boarded a ferry, The Dolly Jay and headed down stream for Rockingham Dock, now owned and operated by Bob Hodge. Once on board we noticed three old maids gossiping - Frances Simpson, Betty Barefield, and Ruby Goodman. After leaving the dock we hea fed for Gray Station. We decided to go by Wine-land , where we saw Bill Wine relaxing lazily in the shade while Velma Rigsby fnow Mrs. Winel was plowing the garden. A shortdistance from Bill's farm, we saw a sign which read, You Name Them - We Talk About Them - Club , Minnie Mae Barnes, President: Charlotte Nutter, Vice President. Coming into the Boones Creek Community the car broke down, and we called a wrecker from the B 81 N Garage. While waiting for a wrecker, a car came whipping by. We only gota glimpse of Jim Vines who was now a hot rod driver. Just thenwe heard atruckbeing geared down. Yes - it was Jim Brant from the B 8: N Garage. We rodeback as far as the Boones Creek High School with Jim, when we decided to go up and visit the school. Carson Crawford as Principal greeted us. Reba Baird was head of the English Department. We lefttheschooland caught a ride to town with Jack Humphrey and Peggy Woodby, who had a station wagon full of kids. When we got to town we stop- ped at the Gas Leak Drug Store . Charlotte Hawkins served us a delicious lunch. She asked us ifwe were going to see the Frost-Shipley teams . Mary Nelle Mitchell and Jody Wintershaveraised six girls each, with the help of Robert Frost and Johnny Shipley, respectivley. At the ball game we saw Do- lores Conkin happily married to Bob Correll. As the game was about to start Nellie Sutphin and Ina Isenberg came to the center of the floor with the cap- tains. They were acting as referees. At the half we went to get something to drink and saw Bill Cross who told us he had just finished asuccessful year as football coach at State, with nine losses and one tie. When we finally got into the drinks stand Margie Cross forced us to take the wrong kind of drinks.
