After suffering a two point loss in the opening game of the season, the Boone Valley girls rolled to 22 consecutive victories before being downed by powerful Alden in the District semi- finals. Ranked 18th in the state by the Des Moines Register, our girls won the North Star Confer- ence crown with a 10-0 record, the North Star Conference tournament, the Sectional tourna- ment and were consolation winners of the District toumament. During regular season play, Carolyn Nerem broke the state consecutive free throw record by sinking 33 in a row. Girls making the all-conference team were Carolyn Nerem at forward, and Marilyn Schmits and Lavonne Veldhouse at guards, the latter also making the I. D. P.A. 3rd All-State team. Hard work and desire, plus excellent leadership and coaching, helped produce this fine rec- ord. With only three graduates leaving, next year's team should be exceptionally strong. Seventeen of the twenty-three boys on the squad lettered this year. The boys participated in the following meets, and usually placed high in the standing.
