Clowes, P. Ogan, Mr. Palmer. The Boone Valley boys' basketball team had a good season this year. They had an 8-10 record, but many of the games they lost were very close ones. The high point in the season came when they dropped the previously unbeaten Goldfield team, the event- ual Conference winner, by 9 points. Our boys should have a great season next year, since every member of the starting five this year was either a junior or sophomore. Two members of the squad made the All-Conference second team. They were Arlan Emmert and Harold Trask. After suffering a two point loss in the opening game of the season, the Boone Valley girls rolled to 22 consecutive victories before being downed by powerful Alden in the District semi- finals. Ranked 18th in the state by the Des Moines Register, our girls won the North Star Confer- ence crown with a 10-0 record, the North Star Conference tournament, the Sectional tourna- ment and were consolation winners of the District toumament. During regular season play, Carolyn Nerem broke the state consecutive free throw record by sinking 33 in a row. Girls making the all-conference team were Carolyn Nerem at forward, and Marilyn Schmits and Lavonne Veldhouse at guards, the latter also making the I. D. P.A. 3rd All-State team. Hard work and desire, plus excellent leadership and coaching, helped produce this fine rec- ord.
