With this dedication, we acknowledge his thirteenth year of teaching at the Boone Valley School. Mr. Baessler's record of twelve division I band winners is an outstanding achievement. We, the seniors, in addition to many others who know you, Mr. Baessler, will always remember your admirable ability as a band instructor. Your sense of humor, your enthusiasm for music, and your interest in all other ac- tivities have been enjoyed by everyone. To you, Mr. Baessler, we dedicate this yearbook. .uk .W ADMINISTRATION gawwlafg ' SEATED: Gerhard Nerem, Loren Schipull, Dean James. STANDING: Supt. R. President - - - - LOREN SCHIPULL Secretary - - - HAROLD GOETTSCH Treasurer - - - JAMES MCGOWAN The Board of Education is the governing body of the school district. They plan and carry out the school budget, make decisions on such subjects as salaries, the purchase of school equipment, school ex- pansion, etc. This year much of their time has been spent planning and preparing for addition of the new section to our school. We have much for which to thank them, for they have helped, through their efforts and interest, to maintain an up-to-date, well- equipped school system. ' TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1962: TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1962: During the past five years it has been my privilege to observe your growth and develop- ment and to know you not only as students but as individuals. As a class you have successfully upheld the standards and traditions of your school. You will now be sailing out into the sea of life. Each of you has individually charted the course you now wish to follow. You are the captain of your ship and in your hands lies your future fate. May the training which you have received from your home, your church, and your school stand as beacons to guide you through a safe, successful, and rewarding journey. Congratulations, b e s t w is h e s, and smooth sailing. R. Wesley Carlson, Supt. As you go out from Boone Valley High School to take your place in the many fields of endeav- or, I trust that your activities will be a credit to the worthwhile concepts which your school has undertaken to teach. Yours is a special responsibility -- to uphold a superior tradition of scholarship, to strive to become a well rounded citizen, and to adhere to only those practices which will develop you physically, mentally and morally. It has been a distinct pleasure and privilege for me to work with you and I extend to you, each and every graduate, my sincere wishes for a useful and happy future. Helmich, K. Helmke, D. Kelling, J. Kraft, E. Nelson, C, Nerem, G. Nerem, T. Nerem, S. Packard, R. Tate, L. Tlncher, and R. White began at Renwick. J. Anderson, Dave Clowes, G. Eng- strom, J. Hefty, R. Klasse, and G. Smith started at Vernon. D. May and R. Palmer started at Hardy. S. Bosworth, K. Emmert, H. Fisher, F. Hanson, A. McDonald, and P. Riley joined the class in later years. Hardy and Renwick sixth graders joined forces when the Renwick Community School was organized, and our Vernon classmates joined us in seventh grade when the Boone Valley School was organized. Highlight of our first year in high school was Freslunan Initiation. Our class officers were S. Packard, President, K. Nerem, Vice-President, S. Gregory, Secretary, and J. Hefty, Treasurer. Our sophomore class float won first prize in the 1959 Homecoming Parade. We elected C. Nerem, President, Dave Clowes, Vice-President: G. Smith, Secretary, and J. Hefty, Treasurer. We were very active in our junior year with the concession stand at ball games, first prize in the 1960 Homecoming parade, the Homecoming dance, the Junior Class Play, and the Junior-Senior Prom. Dave Clowes, T. Nerem, J. Kraft, and Dawn Clowes, respectively, led our class. Our senior year proved to be the most memorable and also the busiest. Remembrances from our final year at B. V. are Homecoming, senior trip to Cherokee, Skip Day, Junior-Senior Prom, straight I's at large group music contest, and of course, Baccalaureate and Commencement. We, the seniors of 1962, being of weak character and weaker minds do so will and be- queath the following items, knowing the school would be lost without them: I, Jim Anderson, will my height to Jim Cameron, knowing he could use several inches. Yet, I see he's getting along with some of the shorter girls without my help. I, Carol Arne, knowing that my horse is safer than my driving habits, will my horse to Gary Lowe in hopes that he can stay on the good side of Barney. We, Sharon Bosworth and Kathy Helmke, will our gift of gab and boisterous dispositions to Lyle Cameron, in case he wants to liven the place next year. I, Dawn Clowes, will my dignity and keen interest in classes to Larry Hebner, knowing he'l1 make the best of them. l, Ken Eekhoff, will my unusual, mysterious attitude to Dave McCurry in hopes he'll have as much fun fooling people as I have. I, Kathie Emmett, will my journalism mess to Betty Engstrom after realizing that it needs a more efficient system. I, Galen Engstrom, will my quietness in study halls to the teachers, knowing they will need some rest time after attempting to teach the juniors something. I, Harlan Fisher, will my speech and English classes to Carol Ann Johnson, in hopes she can undo some of the damage I've done. I, Fred Hanson, will my 1960 convertible to Marilyn Schmits, so she won't have to always explain about Paul's bucket seats. We, Joyce Hefty and Roxie White, will our ambitious, always-on- time nature to Phil Hefty. I, Nancy Helmich, will my pretended bashfulness to Cheese Macha. Goodness only knows he needs it. I, Don Kelllng, will my blonde, blonde hair to Marlene Meyer so she won't have to spend so much time and money on peroxide. I, Ron Klasse, will my last name to Bev Hoveland. She'1l get it before long anyway. I, Jeri Kraft, will my ability to go with several boys at the same time to Carol Hesse, although she seems to have done a pretty good job of it already. I, Allce McDonald, will my ability to get along with the Junior Class so well to Donna McCurty, in case she gets lonesome for her college guy. I, Dennis May, will my hot Mercury to Charlie Dobbs: that is, if there is anything left of lt when I'm through. We, Earl Nelson, Steve Packard, and Dave Clowes, will our perfect attendance record to Paul Wanken because we know of no one else who can equal it. I, Clair Nerem, because of my ability to get on the good side of the teachers, will my pu1l to Marv Hoffman, in case he runs out of his share. We, Gary Nerem and Reggie Tate, will our ability to hang on to money to Ilm Schnetzer -- in case he wants to put a down payment on a new Wanderer. I, Terry Nerem, will my red hair to the junior girls, since my color doesn't wash out. I, Pearl Riley, will my silence in class to Dianne Nelson, hoping she'll take the hint and rest her vocal cords awhile. I, Glenda Smith, will falthough I hate to give it upj my ability to get along with Mr. Smith to LaVonne Veldhouse knowing she'll love to be his secretary next year. I, Larry Tincher, will my extreme quiet attitude in class to Tom Tjelle -- and you can take that any way you want to. To the teachers, we will our deepest gratitude for their patience while attempting to teach us something in these gracious Halls of Wisdom. To the Juniors, we will Room A, in hopes they'11 get a few of those A's on their report cards. To the Sophomores, we will our privileges as upperclassmen -- in case they get a chance to use them. To the Freshmen -- Live it Up -- you've got three years ahead of you. WISCONSIN LUMBER CO. ?u,b4ecq It is 1985 as we set sail for New York harbor. Upon docking at Amsterdam, we go sight-seeing and find our pal Don Kelling in his FLOW-ER bed fyou know, flower garden.J It appears the bump on his head from the Senior Class Play affected his brain. The height of festivities in Holland is the crowning of Miss Jeri Kraft as Tulip Queen. Aboard ship and on our way, we find that the radio operator, after much deliberation, has deciphered the call letters of R-O- X- I-E. We immediately know that this must be Electronics Chief Jim Anderson radiolng information back to a friend in the States. fRoxie learned a long time ago how to translate Jim's messages, so she is chief stenographer at the Pentagon.J Upon arriving at London, a taxi is waiting to take us to the palace. We immediately recognize the driver as Harlan Fisher. Harlan doesn't have his own cab. This IS cheaper, you know, since the Fisher boys DO have their share of car troubles. At the palace the hostess greeting us is Kathy Helmke. She wanted to travel after leaving A. I.B. and took her first job as private secretary to a prince. Of course, she married the boss. - On the way back to the dock in the Fisher taxicab, we collide with a street car. We are injured slightly and are rushed to the Royal Hospital. As they carry us in on stretchers, Larry Tincher is standing guard at the royal entrance. Larry didn't go into business for him- self because he's definitely in favor of a light overhead, he prefers blondes. In the hospital we pass the reception desk and two lovely nurses, Carol Arne and Nancy Helmlch. While waiting, we overheat a conversation between the famous psychiatrist Dr. Dawn Clowes and her patient. Have you ever been troubled by improper thoughts? . . . Why no, to tell the truth, Doctor, Irather enjoy them! I'm sure all of you know that Clair Nerem is commander of the newest atomic powered submarine. fl-le's an underwater, undercover agent.J He asked me to go with him on his latest mission. It seems he has been assigned to a SPECIAL project -- something about Up Table Up. QI know atomic power is miraculous, but I didn't realize it is maglc.j Arriving at Hawaii, we find Navyman Steve Packard having the time of his life. In his spare time, he watches the s-w-a-y of grass skirts. fTornadoes may be called twisters, but they've got nothing on hula dancers.l Dave Clowes tells us Hawaiian volcanic soil makes excellent farm land. He suggests that farms be put on turn tables -- it would be much easier to rotate crops that way. With such advanced ideas, he is sure to go places. In Paris, the city of fashion and night life, we take time to visit the famous Cafe de Paree where Mademoiselle Pearl Riley is head waitress. We find Parisian artist Terry Nerem sketching. He thinks the world is filled with beau- tiful things, but, unfortunately, TOO many of them are married. His paintings are in de- mand as well as are his models, one of whom is our own little Glenda Smith. Glenda models the latest in women's fashions -- you know, all those things that go in one year and out the other. From Cairo we travel to the deepest, darkest part of Africa and find Kathie Emmert serving the only missionary post in that part of the continent. Describing the mannerisms of the tribal people, she says, They ain't got no manners, and they don't wear no cos- tumes. In the distance, we hear a spine-tingling, pop the clutch, the ape call of Tarzan Eekhoff as he swings along from one tree to another. fKen complains of the rainy weather in the jungle. A friend says it can't be too bad since he looks sunburned. Ken insists it is rust., A weekend excursion takes us to Frankfurt, Germany, home base for Head-Army Engl- neer, Ron Klasse. Aboard ship and bound for home, we notice Reg Tate, who has just recently joined the Navy. The captain asked him if he had cleaned the deck and polished the brass. Reg answered, Yes, Sir. And with my telescope I swept the horizon. fHow's that for am- bition D Scientist Professor Galen A. Engstrom, another passenger on our cruiser, is en route to Eagle Grove University to complete blueprints for his new invention -- an earthquake de- tector that works like an alarm clock. An alert fellow, he has an alternate patent ready for an alarm clock that works like an earthquake. fThat's the kind most of us need. J Ship nurse for the entire journey has been Ensign Joyce Hefty. She cares for seasick passengers by day and acts in the crew's play as a part of the ship's entertainment by night The play is styled after the Ben Casey series and named 0uch. Returning to the States, we are thrilled by the welcome sight of the Statue of Liberty. With great relief, we plant our feet firmly on native soil and watch the Fords go by. Here we find Fred Hansen as a Ford salesman, which reflects the enthusiasm he has always shown toward this great vehicle: Let me call you Lizzy I'm in debt for youg Let me hear you rattle As all good Fords do. Keep your headlights burning And your taillight too, Let me call you Lizzy I'm in debt for you. Before returning to Renwick, we make several more stops. I have always wanted to see a pro football game. With Gary Nerem as star quarterback, this event was a must. On to the Texan oil fields, we see Sharon Bosworth as a gusher type stenographer. fShe also married her boss and is doing oil right for herself.D Miss McDonald is a teacher. The other day she asked a troublemaklng pupil whether he had any brothers or sisters. The child answered, No, I'm the only child. Alice said, Thank goodness! fSurely the Boone Valley teachers didn't feel that way about any of the 1962 seniors.l Back in our home town we notice a local business firm, the May Bus Line with daily stops on streets in the southern end of town -- 8 A.
