N 'T FOOTBALL SEAS ON 1947 The football season of 1947 got under way when 35 boys reported to coach Hewitt for their first work out on the Capron football field. The squad was later cut down to 20 boys. Most of these boys were inexperienced and knew very little about the game, john Georgeson was the only regular from last season. john was again captain of the team and was rated one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. Some of these boys came to Capron from Poplar Grove and two of them developed well enough to make the first team. They are Bob Cline, end, and Cliff Courtney, halfback. Bob later developed into one of the best pass receivers in the conference. Palnmyra invaded Capron on September 19 for the opening game of the season and the Capron boys got off to a good start as they easily won by a score of 54 to 7, but when Capron went to Clinton on Septernber Z6 for a night contest, lack of experience proved fatal and Clinton came out on top by a 43 to 6 score. On October 3, Hebron came to Capron in a non-conference tilt. Capron was again victorious as they won the game by a score of 33 to 12. When Richmond came to Capron on October 10, inexperience again showed on Capron as Richmond produced a big fast team. Richmond won by a score of 52 to 0. On October 17, Capron went to Williams Bay. The Bay proved to be a tough team but the Capron boys fought hard and came out on top by a score of 44 to 26. On October 24, we played our Homecoming Game with Sharon and a large crowd saw Capron win that game by a score of 37 to ZZ. On October 31, Capron went to Darien for another night contest. This was the final game of the season and Capron came out on top by an easy 40 to 12 score Although Capron's players were inexperienced at the start of the season they developed fast under the supervision of Coach Hewitt and came out in second place in the conference. Of the first 6 men, 5 are graduating. They are john Georgeson, Robert Cline, Stanley Mikrut, Don Jeffers, and Bob Svenson. Hold overs for next year areg Gene Bond, john Bond, Cliff Courtney, Earl Smith, Gene Ball, jack Peterson, Ray Bullard, Howard johnson, George Russell, Larry Meyer, and 'Robert Garner.
