Three of these tirnid Freshmen, Katherine Sallee, Bertha Capes, and Ransom Joplin, left us early in the year. Our class advisor was Miss Jeanne Nelson. During our first week, we experienced initiation. Later we gave the Sophomores a return party. When school opened the following fall, thirty-three industrious SOPHO- MORES returned. Dick Moshier was with us a while, later Shirley Dunker joined us. One of our outstanding events of this year was a trip the Biology class took under the supervision of Mr. Elrner Hopperstead. In 1946, thirty-four persistent JUNIORS returned. This year we were joined by lla Gunderson, and Glen Hermanson. Arlene Mizner left us soon after school started. Those participating in the play were: Richard johnson, Marion Wright, Roma Seaver, Margaret Frye, lla Gunderson, Robert Munson, Virginia Gorton, john Georgeson, Ted Holliday, Edna johnson. Our banquet and prom turned out very successfully. We entertained the Seniors at the Wagon Wheel at Roscoe for the banquet. The prom was held at the high school with Candy Land as our theme. Upon theleaving of Mrs. Dunker during the second semester, Mr. William LaCroix became our class advisor. Robert Svensen, and Robert Fleming joined us during the second semester. Thirty-five studious SENIORS returned in 1947 to finish their four years in Capron High. Dardanell Rambow, Fred Rambow, Alrna Duke and Vivian Smith left us this year, but Edward Anderson, Betty Ball, Robert Cline, and Roger johnson joined us. We have been very busy this year having paper drives and bake sales to earn money for our class trip to Washington, D. Oh Yes, Barba Ritter has her axnbitiong her hair is now 'long and she is called 2.nd Veronica. As we turn on the radio, we now hear that swooning Virginia Gorton. Let's change stations! In 1967, we see Professor Holliday teaching school He now has a Mrs. Holliday. We see Virginia Larnbert working nights now. It seems she can't get up in the morning. She is working in an alarm clock factory trying to make clocks that will wake you up inthe morning. Virginia Stimes, the business girl of Capron, is now toe dancing. As we take a day off for the circus, whom should we see trying out for the Fat Lady but Margaret Frye. The Wolf Pack of 48 has now quieted down to one girl as their leader fE.dna Mae johnsonj. Shirley Dunker is now a married woman but she keeps up her basketball career by throwing her husband around. Ruth Osterberg is carrying out her nickname, she is now a Bubble Dancer. It seems that Ruth Schwebke has now become a Lambert! Oh yes, there is a little Lambert too. And at a home in the woods we now see lla Gunderson howling at the moon at night in hopes of finding her long lost wolf. Bonne, by name. Bob Cline is now running a Farmers' Elevator with his charming secretary Betty Ball. Someone should tell him it would be easier to haul coal in a truck than a wheelbarrow. g Eddy Anderson is now running for President of the U. S. A. It seems Roma Seaver is ahead of him and Vice-president is as far as he can get. Their next topic will be lefthanded monkey wrenches. What is this sign: THE THREE MUSKETEERSH? Why it is none other than Deon, Sadie, and Doris, and what are they trying to do? Catch Kilroy? Betty Williams is now married--she has been chasing her husband for 5 years, and she finally caught up with him. johnny Georgeson now has his own basketball team--the George-Sons- Squad, by name. Roger johnson is now making Fords. They seem to last longer than those he buys. fHas anyone got some baling wire to donate?j QU ,,,. i V 1 1?-ffi-1-v qw' U 24. L.. ,R A yi, J 4 A .MIM ', f 'NY . Well, who else can it be but Clifford Pea- cock! Does anyone want a good wife? Elwin Hoelzel has gone to beauty school, he just couldn't stand straight hair any longer. Stan Mikrut is running a Ladies' Hat Shop. He surely has a way with the women and he designs the hats himself. Pastor Hermanson will announce the text for next Sunday at the Ladies' Conference of this week. Richard Garner is now raising succotash, he plants corn and beans in the same field while Dick Ball chases butterflies. Don McCullough has his own dancing school now, called the Happy Hops. He has a bus route and practices speecheson it every morning. Bob Fleming has an ad in the 1967 issue of a paper. Pretty girls wanted. He is finally an artist and has just got his one desire fshort skirts agai Donald Jeffers has a farm and a wife. He is a very contented old man only he has yet to discover how to get the extra milk back in the cow. This first great year brought forth thirty-five canny students. The first event of this year was to elect our officers. They were as follows: Class Advisor --Mrs. Lawrence Hattg President--Carol Maxon: Secretary--Phyllis Holmes: Treasurer--Wayne Robinson. The first activity for that's what the Sophomores called it, was the sad event, initiation. This was the one thing that made the students more timid. Some of the year's activities were the raffling of an electric iron, participation in the high school's magazine campaign, and sponsoring a St. Patrick's Day Dance. This year we lost the seven following students: William Benesch, Stanley Carter, Donald Croissant, Shirley Gannon, Roger Metcalfe, jean Rambow, and Donna Vee Smith. Because of sickness we lost another one, Dick Phillips, who later returned with the class of '50. A year later, '46, brought forth twenty-nine brave students. We were going to do the initiating instead of receiving it. After we finished this activity, we elected our officers for the second tixne of our high school career. The officers were as follows: Advisor--Miss Gwendolyn Meadg President-- Ellen Jeffers: Vice-president--Marilyn jackson: Secretary--Maureen Lambert: Treasurer--Daniel Keefc. Our activities were an April dance, and sponsoring a card party in the school gymnasium. Through the year we lost five classmates: Eleanor Burge, who attended a school in Missouri, Barbara Floyd, who is attending school in Sharon: and the other three were Eugene Mikrut, Melvin Monsen, and Wayne Robinson. During the year, we gained two students who were Russell Fleming, who came from Kirkland, and Robert Brinkmeyer, who attended school in'Beloit. This ended the first half of our high school education. This year, '47, started out with a BANG! We now have twenty-nine students, gaining three students from Poplar Grove: Marlene Smith, Clifford Courtney and Ray Bullard. Robert Watkins and Robert Carter came from near Garden Prairie. During the first semester Marlene Smith and Eleanor Burge quit school, and the second semester Robert Carter moved to Loves Park. Our officers of this year are as follows: Advisor--Mrs. Mavis Harris, President--Russell Fleming, Vice-president--Clifford Courtney, Secretary-- Frances Olson, Treasurer--Howard Johnson. As for our activities and other events, we received our class rings, january 5, 1948. Our means of making money for the class were the selling of labels and post cards and helping in a magazine campaign. But our biggest Wwwir' ' ' ' ' Y ' Iiwwwl 1 4 1 1 N 1 I 1 1 i f JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY-Continued event of the year so far, was the junior play, Hillbilly Courtship. It was held the night of january ZZ, 1948. With the tirne and help of Mrs. Harris we were able to put it over successfully. Those students that made up the play cast are as follows: Robert Carter--Luke Sirllsby, in love with the mountain flower. 1 Roberta Lomas--Emmy Peppin, a flower of the Ozarks. 1 Carol Maxon--Ma Peppin, the mother of the flower. J Betty Piper--Lulu Triffet, radio hillbilly. Richard Traver--Wash jeddo, the mountain nitwit. . 1 Evelyn whifacre--seedie Triffet, radio hillbilly. . Robert Garner--Sol Silverstein, a Hebrew manager. Ray Bullard--Louis Cattaro, a tempermental Italian. Maynard Koltz--Pappy Stilsby, a feudist of the old school. 4 Maureen Lambert--Bridget O'Flannigan, a wild Irish rose. 3 Clifford Courtney--Rev. Boswell, me preacher man. The prom and banquet were held on May 7 and 8. We are looking forward to a prosperous Senior year at Capron High School. 4 I ' K .,,,. . ,ff ,X i , 4 .K .', x A, , ' aw ' ,Fa lx ' X ' 1, . .ri fy y,'?.'1j A ' -I . -., - . We landed as twenty-six Freshmen in Capron, September 1946. The first few days were hectic ones, and thus provided some fun for the others in school. We soon got settled but then came initiation when more laughs were created at our expense. The first year we chose as our leaders: President, Katherine Meier, Vice-president, joan Stoufferg Secretary, Phyllis Hawley, Treasurer, joan Goodall. Our class advisor, Miss Morris, left at the end of the year. Genevieve Molthen and Carl Masear left us during the year. Time marches on! 1947! We are no longer green Freshmen but full fledged Sophomores. This year we were joined by Lewis Anderson, Gene Ball, john Bond, james Giesecke, and Ruby Sieler, making twenty-nine in our class. We chose Miss McGee as our class advisor. President, john Bond, Vice-pres- identg Paul Nordvigg Secretary, Katherine Meier, Treasurer, Ronald Seaver. October 3, we held an initiation party for the Freshmen. We earned money by selling magazines, we also had a turkey raffle in November, and a bake sale in the spring. We are a very jolly class and have enjoyed our first two years of high school. We are looking forward to having more enjoyrnent in out last two years at Capron High School. FRESHMEN CLASS HISTORY On the morning of September 3, 1947, forty-nine Freshmen stepped through the doors of Capron High School to begin their high school career. In a short time they realized that high school was quite a bit different from grade school. Then the big day of October 3 came and the Sophomores initiated the Fresh- men in royal order. That night the Freshmen were requested to attend a party held in the school gym. A good time was had by all at the expense of the Fresh- men. Our class advisor is Mrs. Ellingson and our class officers are as follows: President, Phyllis johnson, Vice-president, Larry Meyer, Secretary, Audrey rieastg Treasurer, june Dunker. To raise money we sold magazines and held several cake raffles. On February 9, 1948, we held a return party for the Sophomores at the Fox Skating Palace in Belvidere. Our Freshmen year in high school has been very successful and we plan on having another good year when we are Sophomores. 1 i . .ur 119 ,. J 1'-1' A '17 - , . . , ' . -1 .1 1 . . ..l. .I Q . The squad was later cut down to 20 boys. Most of these boys were inexperienced and knew very little about the game, john Georgeson was the only regular from last season. john was again captain of the team and was rated one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. Some of these boys came to Capron from Poplar Grove and two of them developed well enough to make the first team. They are Bob Cline, end, and Cliff Courtney, halfback. Bob later developed into one of the best pass receivers in the conference. Palnmyra invaded Capron on September 19 for the opening game of the season and the Capron boys got off to a good start as they easily won by a score of 54 to 7, but when Capron went to Clinton on Septernber Z6 for a night contest, lack of experience proved fatal and Clinton came out on top by a 43 to 6 score. On October 3, Hebron came to Capron in a non-conference tilt. Capron was again victorious as they won the game by a score of 33 to 12. When Richmond came to Capron on October 10, inexperience again showed on Capron as Richmond produced a big fast team. Richmond won by a score of 52 to 0. On October 17, Capron went to Williams Bay. The Bay proved to be a tough team but the Capron boys fought hard and came out on top by a score of 44 to 26. On October 24, we played our Homecoming Game with Sharon and a large crowd saw Capron win that game by a score of 37 to ZZ. On October 31, Capron went to Darien for another night contest. This was the final game of the season and Capron came out on top by an easy 40 to 12 score Although Capron's players were inexperienced at the start of the season they developed fast under the supervision of Coach Hewitt and came out in second place in the conference. Of the first 6 men, 5 are graduating. They are john Georgeson, Robert Cline, Stanley Mikrut, Don Jeffers, and Bob Svenson. Hold overs for next year areg Gene Bond, john Bond, Cliff Courtney, Earl Smith, Gene Ball, jack Peterson, Ray Bullard, Howard johnson, George Russell, Larry Meyer, and 'Robert Garner. Around 35 boys reported to Coach Hewitt for their first practice. After a few practices the squad was cut to Z5 boys. The line-up for our first game included Bob Cline and Roger johnson as forwards, john Georgeson and Cliff Courtney as guards, and Ed Anderson at the center position. Later in the season Stanley Mikrut replaced Roger johnson at forward. This line-up developed into a fine hardworking team which never knew when to quit. In our regular season we won 16 games while only losing 4 and finished in third place in the Conference. Of the first ten men five are graduating. They are Bob Cline, john Georgeson, Ed Anderson, Stan Mikrut, and Roger johnson. The five remaining players are john Bond, Clifford Courtney, Russell Fleming, Earl Smith, and Ray Bullard. In the Hebron District Tournament , Capron meets Huntley for its first game. If Capron defeats Huntly we will then meet St. Edwards' of Elgin for the second game. In December the FFA sponsored a Skating Party, which was held at the Fox Skating Rink in Belvidere. This wasithe first Skating Party of the year and was a big success. The judgingteams are preparing for the Live Stock judging Contest which will be held in Marengo, Illinois on April 29. They also are planning to attend the Dairy judging Contest held on the Curtis Candy Farm in Cary, Illinois on May 4. A party with the FHA is planned to take place before the end of the year. Another project that the FFA has undertaken this year is the planting of certified seed. The seeds will be planted in small wooden boxes which will be placed on window sills. The seeds that are to be planted are: Tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, and etc. They are to be planted early so they will be ready to sell to the people of the surrounding area to plant in their spring gardens.
