The Toreadors took the opening kickoff 60 yards for the first touch- down with Mike Harris going the last 17 yards to pay- dirt. Boone scored again in the second period on a six- yard run by junior fullback Dick Duffy. Duffy also added the point after touchdown. A Harris to Denny Vaudt pass for 12 yards helped hurry the scoring drive along. Then a 19-yard pass from Harris to McMullan took the ball only one yard from the goal where Duffy took it over to make the score 21-0. In the third quarter Boone scored again, this time on a six-yard jaunt by Bruce Richeson. Fort Dodge scored two touchdowns this half, both on short plunges. A fractured wrist to junior fullback Dick Duffy put him out of commission for the season. The Toreadors throttled the Grinnell Tigers 21-0 in the opening CIC game. Denny Vaudt scored the first touch down on a 13-yard jaunt. Bruce Richeson ran for the extra point and Boone led 7-0. The Toreador defense then toughened and held, as was the story of the whole game. A fourth down field goal attempt failed for the Tigers, and the Toreadors took over on their own 20 Mike Harris scored on a two-yard plunge, and Kelly McMullan scored the extra point with 4:23 left in the half. Boone launched its final touchdown excursion from its own 33-yard line early in the fourth quarter, after taking a Grinnell punt, ending the game with a 21-0 victory. , , 53132 1 1 '2ivlE3VElf3?5ki 1. : fl 1'?g7'fS-V' Wi -gl-555,117 I'x'P? f.?','3i'-f'!'Z1 WY? f' 457.1555 ii, T . 1 fi , 'w AN? The Boone Toreadors went for an easy homecoming victory when they defeated the Tama-Toledo Trojans 40-13. First score by the Toreadors was made in the first quarter by senior quarterback Mike Harris when he ran'a 91-yard kick-off return which is one of the longest in the Toreador gridiron history. Tama-Toledo also scored on a three-yard run which tied the score 6-6. Bruce Richeson ran for a total of seven yards in two individual plays which brought the score to 19-6. Kelly McMullan received a 7-yard pass from Harris which made the- extra point. john Winters scored the next touchdown when he received a fumble in the Tama-Toledo end zone. Clyde Hovick made the extra point. Boone then made another easy score when Harris returned the kickoff and carried it to the 50. Boone finally reached paydirt and Richeson ran for the point and Boone wrapped it up at 40-13. Boone tied Nevada 14-14 in a non-conference game In the first 24 minutes of play Nevada's quarterback, Rich Prati, completed five out of five pass attempts for 75 yards. Clyde Hovick punted into the end zone mid way through the first period and Nevada started the drive for their first touchdown. Two passes, one for 37 yards and the other for 20 yards boosted their drive and the first Nevada t.d. was made on the last play of the first period. In the second period Boone started their comeback, but a Boone fumble was recovered by the Cubs on their own 42-yard line. This time the Cubs depended more on running, but the t.d. was made on a 13-yard pass. The extra point was made, as it was the first time. Newton scored on a 66-yard pass, but the extra point failed, making the score 6-0 with 10:39 left in the first quarter. Boone's first score came on a 34-yard pass from Mike Harris to Kelly McMullan with 6:31 left in the half, Bruce Richeson added the extra point. Right at the end of the half Newton tried for a field goal but failed and Boone had a 7-6 halftime lead. Boone took the second half kick-off and started their second touchdown drive on the Cardinal 46-yard line. Eight plays later Denny Vaudt scored from the one-yard line. The extra point attempt failed and Boone led 13-6 with 4:23 left in the third period. The Cardinals drove to the Boone 26, but were stopped. The Toreadors made one of their finest showings when they tied Ames 13-13. Ames scored in the first quarter on a 16-yard run by Mike Bliss. The p.a.t. failed, and Ames led 6-0. Richeson then scored for Boone in the second quarter on a four-yard run. McMullan added the extra point and the score stood 7-6, Boone. In the third quarter Boone again scored on a two-yard run by Mc- Mullan. The p.a.t. failed and Boone led 13-6. Boone's first loss of the season was suffered against the Marshalltown Bobcats. Marshalltown received the kickoff and on the second play marched 64 yards for a touch- down. The extra point failed. A fumble by the Bobcats and a long drive and a successful extra point gave Boone a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats had the ball on their own 33 with a first and goal to go, but Steve Bancroft led to force them back to the 22. The first and 10 failed and Boone got possession. The 'Cats got a break from a Boone fumble, and scored, but the extra point failed. The action in the third quarter was a 54-yard, 11-play touchdown by Ron Peterson for Marshalltown. The Toreadors struck back with 2:38 left in the game. A pass from Harris to Rick Davis netted the extra point to end the game with a score of 24-14. The Toreadors gained a 35-6 victory over the Oskaloosa Indians at Osky. The first score for Boone was made by Bruce Richeson on the locals' first play of the game, and he also added the extra point. After a fumble re- covery on the Oskaloosa 11 by Boone, the locals again hit paydirt with Richeson running 11 yards. Again Bruce ran the p.a.t. and the score stood at 14-0, Boone. Denny Vaudt intercepted a pass at Osky's 48 and ran it to thc 45. On the last play of the quarter, Kelly McMullan ran 37 yards to make a t.d. and Richeson added the extra point.
