John .llusscr lat rostruml. udent Council THE 1951-l952 SCHOOL YEAR found the Boone High Student Coun- cil very busy. The Council worked hard to extend to the entire school a feeling of democracy. The various homerooms elected representatives to be their voice in the governmental system of the school. As always the Council sponsored many projects during the year. The group played co-host with the Ames Student Council for the State Student Council Convention. At this convention several mem- bers of the Boone organization were on the television program. John Musser presided over the first business meeting of the day. Student Government Day was another of the many projects. Everyone eagerly awaited the caucus which was held in the audi- torium. At this caucus various members of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes were nominated for the many different ollices. These members, in turn, were voted upon in an all-school election. The Crusade for Freedom Drive was held all over the nation. The funds that were collected through the Boone Council, along with those which were collected in all of the towns and cities in cholarship the nation, helped to extend democracy all over the world. The newly organized Junior High Council met with the Senior Council to discuss various problems. This helped to stimulate co- UNDER A NEW SYSTEM initiated this year, Boone stu- dents received recognition for good classroom work. All students who maintained a grade point of 3.2 and who had been registered in Boone High School for one year were eligible. The students' grades were averaged. Any sophomore having met the re- quirements had his name read at the induction cere- mony. Any second semester junior, having met the requirements, was awarded a scholarship certificate. Each second semester senior. fulfilling the require- ments, received an honor certificate. Those seniors who maintained the 3.2 average until graduation operation between the two divisions of the high school. received a scholarship pin at commencement. At the impressive ceremony held this spring the following were inducted: Seniors. Phil Billings, Bob Carpenter, Gretchen Kinter, Doris Krug, Joan Logs- don, Kathleen McCoy. John Musser, Carole Nelson, Marilyn Parisho, Pat Peterson. Shirley Ross, Jerry Sebring. Juniors: Shirley Sue Anderson. Sharon Boersma. Lloyd Courier. Donna DeWitt. Dorothy Gibson, Rosemary Humm, Mary Hutson, Elaine Moore. Sharon Richmond. James Schmickley. John Seaton, Myron Stolte. Maxine Sturtz. Marlyn Wiemer.
