Cziiiipbell. I I The Boone High swimming team, coach- ed by Mr. Baldus, started off their tank season at home with a 48-27 victory over Lincoln of Des Moines. On the average the team had a successful season with three victories and three losses. Through- out the entire season the boys showed improvement in their style and time rat- ings. Many members of the team have another year left in high school and ought to prove outstanding next year. Jerry Smith, a junior. brought back- stroking honors to Boone, with a first place in every meet but one. Robert Dahl, also a junior, showed remarkable Robert Dahl speed in the breast stroke and was re- warded with five first places during the swimming season. Because of illness Rob- ert was not able to finish out the tank season. James Berglund completed his last full year of swimming. l-le received considerable recognition lor the crawl stroke, in which he excelled. Swimming the 40 and 100-yard freestyle, he took first place in most of the events in which he was entered, and a second place in the state meet. Diving for Boone were L.aVerne York. a senior, and Robert Jenson, who has one more year left. James Berglund ln the springtime a young mans fancy turns to thoughts of-golf. Four lctter- win.iers from last years squad, which walked off with the district championship and finished fourth in the state, became the nucleus for this year's squad. They were Russell McGee, Richard Schultz. William Johnson, and Clayton Moffitt. Boys battling for fifth place on the squad were Roland Wiley, Duanne Dubois, and Perry Spies. Under the able tutelage of Coach Johnson the Boone niblick-swingers engaged in meets with Ames, Roosevelt of Des Moines, as well as the Oskaloosa Invitational, the Conference, District and ' - A' - -- A ' -- A H - :iid Schultz.
