1 RUN I l OXV F lshzr fI'0Uth'lll1Q-'l H rm IH K IND ROW f ke Jlsrm est n ll nlld X1 m RU W dl lll1l6'I n 1 S Gwmcd The student counc1l of Boone Hlgh School under the able gu1dance ot Mr Donald Seaton prmclpal took an act1ve part 1n runnmg school attalrs tor the past year Headed by B111 Crouthamel pres1dent Ahce F1sher v1ce presldent and Jack Herman secretary the governlng body opened the year w1th a clean up the halls campa1gn Through the use of posters and home room talks an et fort was made to keep our halls free of paper and rubblsh REVISION of the constltutlon took a good deal of the counclls t1me the tnst change bemg an amendment to prov1de for strong leade1'sh1p Under the new provlslons flV6 members are to be added to the counc1l each year lhey w1ll 1nclude three upper class presldents and two members at large to be elected by the student counc1l Thxs fxrst year Charles Moss Dav1d Dlehl Dorothy Clarke James L1ttell and W1ll1am Stemmerman were taken 1nto the group A comrmt tee was chosen to mvestxgate further constltutlonal amendments The Boone counc1l th1s year became one of the flrst schools to belong to the newly formed State Student Counc1l Assoc1at1on The f1rst state meet1ng was held xn Ames wxth four of the local counc1l attendlng Our representatlves were Charles Moss A11ce F1sher Marshall Kmg Kenyon Hoffman and MISS lhorn burgh advlser A promlnent part was taken by our members Charles Moss was elected chalrman of the Central Iowa D1str1ct and 1n the electlon ot state ottlcers Al1ce F1sher won over candldates from LeMars and Cl1nton to become state sec letary The annual good w1l1 program of the councxl came ln the torm of a LAI-th. package drlve An assembly featurlng talks by the counc1l ott1cers and a mov1e dep1ct1ng the tragxc European CO'1d1t1OHS opened the dr1ve A successful collect1on through home room competmon brought 1n S125 54 WhlCh was used to send twelve packages to a deslgnated school 1n France Stressmg knowledge of c1ty government the counc1l rev1ved the plan ot hav mg the students take over the government of Boone for a day BHSIC plans called for a campalgn to elect mayor c1ty COUHC11 c1ty clerk pollce and tlre Chl9lS and thlrteen other offlcers to be appomted by the elected c1ty 0fllCl3lS Durmg the state speech contest 1n Boone on Aprxl 16 and 17 the student counc1l took over the operatxon of a lounge room and coat room tor those attendmg Keeplng 1n mmd the betterment of Boone Hxgh School the 1947 1948 rouncll carrxed out one of the most successtul programs 1n many years 1' .
