Swan fbawq... Deal' Diary: Well, I made it! Spring of 1946, and I'm about to graduate. Of course, I'm going to miss my old classmates because even if 'I do say so, the class of '46 has estab- lished itself in oul local hall of fame. For instance, there was the time that Jim Fitz- gerald, 'while only a junior, was chosen as the typical teen-ager of Boone High. The Chicago Daily Sun, sponsor of the contest, published Jim's picture and the story of his achievements throughout the nation. Dwight Nelson, proving that farming is as scien- tific and profitable as any other trade, also made his debut in the city of Chicago. He received a gold watch and a scholarship in any college he pre- fers, all this through his activities as a 4-H member. Now, don't get the idea, diary, that my class doesn't have a humorous side. It does, by all means. Whom did the Pep Club call on when they needed a great artist for their skits during a pep meeting? Why, Skinny Anderson, of course! Now', I ask you, can just anyone get up on the stage and give such a natural performance as Skinny does? Svllitll'l'i2lSS17fI'l4't'I'S f ' !. Then there were our two top comedians, Don Bergendahl and Jim Shaw. On the stage they were completely at homeg and if a crisis arose, the wits of Bergendahl and Shaw scurried to the rescue. Right along with stage plays came the production crew. If there were no men behind the scenes just how successful wOuld our class plays have been? 'l'ake, for example, Harry Ecnternaeh, lighting man- ager, and John Munro, who handled stage settings. harry always carried with him the pause that re- lreshes -a carton of cokes. He had several pauses Oh, yes, diary, w'e were quite a frivolous class, but lets get back to the accomplishments perform- ed. My new friend, Maralyn Lister, who came to Boone from Ottumwa, distinguished herself among the artists when she received a 1 rating at a contest for her dramatic reading from Wuthering Heights. The Toreadorettes contributed generously to Boone High's glory . by winning the girls' county basketball tournament. Vivacious Jane X - I I Scheerer as usual was high point man, Cl1'CUl3tlI1g her indomit- able spirit throughout the cheering crowd. I think leadership is a quality that everyone strives for in one way or another, and Jacques Welin seems to have reached the goal, for he was captain of the football team, captain of the basketball team, president of the Junior class, vice-president of the senior CIZISS, and president. of the Hi Y. Some of his spare time activi- ties were swimming, baseball, and driving old jalopies. Bob Reed established nimself among the leaders, also, as presi- dent of the senior class. Joann Blosser proved the ability of the girls when she :was elected secretary of the senior class and presi- dent of the Hi Tri. No party was complete without Don Carter as MC. We would all gather around the piano while Don gave out with some of his favorite red hot boogie. In more serious music, Maxie Erickson won first class rating in piano at both district and I state contests. Every two weeks we would anxiously await the arrival of the Bum-ble B, no matter how much we complained about it. Behind the scenes working hard to pleas-3 the student body were our edit- ors: Isobel Canakes, editor-in-chiefg Maxie Erickson, news: and Mary I , Ann Herman, feature editor. And I must not forget to mention our ' Q -. demon Scroll staff, headed by Charlene Jennings and Mary Ann 'Nkixf ' ' Herman. -7? ,. uv - 5 . r W Well ,diary, there you have it. I know you'll agree with me now ,V ,, that the class of '46 is one of the most outstanding ones of its time.
